Nintendo finally realizing that developing HD games require much more effort than Wii games. They will be fine in my opinion. Hopefully they start hiring more people to make games so the quality does not drop.

that's exactly what i've been assuming in a thread some weaks ago.
development and staff is exploding while changing from sd to hd.
in combination with lots of 3ds games(also far more development and staff thanDS)you will have problems to support Wii U
nintendo has simply underestimated the change to next gen.
It looks like they were living in a parallel universe - the no effort one. There's Nintendo and... there's the other side gaming. Still miss the Gamecube days when they were able to fight it (not taking some kind of shortcut a la wii).

You plan for that as a business though. You play 'what if' and if there's a risk your brand new console might not have any games for a year, you delay the console, reduce the game scope, or intervene sooner. If Iwata didn't realise the risk existed he's incompetent. Imagine if EA accidentally didn't have any games for a year. You think shareholders would be sympathetic that sometimes "things come up"? |
of course he would have considered all of what you mention but even then things might not work the way they are planned.
it is better to delay than rush games like some developers do and in the process release games with less quality. Nintendo doing so will risk loosing fans that stick with them for the sake of their franchises.
Nintendo planned to complete the games they where going to release in the launch window and have the 3rd party games and then things went wrong. If they keep on thinking "what ifs" then things will never take any form. they also had to release the console because they didn't have anything for the Wii
also with new games today it takes time to create something that is different than what you get
Hard for EA not to have games when they can just copy and past their sports games, add a couple of new things to it and then they are done
it's easy to sit and complain without knowing what is going on

Maybe so, but it's not unreasonable to expect more than an upscale of a Wii game and a mini game compilation from a console manufacturer in the first 6 months of a system's life.
*1 very burned lifelong Nintendo fan!
Hey Nintendo... you've got a few billion or so in the bank, how about HIRING more people, and not using the same handful of development teams for all of your games?!?
And ya gotta love how Iwata says high software prices in a highly competitive, consumer-savvy industry are one of the obstacles they face, when they couldn't wait to finally slap a $60 price tag on their 1st party software... ironically enough on 2 games that most people would view as overpriced if they were PS360 titles... a minigame fest and a 2D platformer.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
I would guess Nintendo remedied the issue quite a while ago when they began heavily expanding their teams and partnerships.

Quite but the effects won't be immediate.
It's funny how people in here claiming that Nintendo has misunderstood or underestimated time and budget needed to develop HD games. But isn't this one of the reason why Nintendo didn't make the Wii HD in the first place, i.e. that they felt that HD game development would be too expensive?

I love My Wii U, and the potential it brings to gaming.

Too expensive at the time, tho its years later. Now its just a thing of adjusting staff and time (still more money but not as much as it used to be).
