I play challenging games from like all genres that exist. On like every console out there.

And I dont base "hardcore" on random online people that I can meet that might kick my ass. If the game is hard on its own right then its a "hardcore" title.

Mainstream games with multiplayer modes where some people have no life and therefore kick my ass are not "hardcore".

I mean I can always find a person thats better than me in doing whatever I might want to do e.g. farting or taking a sh!t or whatever does this make this real life activity more "hardcore" than anything else? no of course not.

When I think of a hardcore gamer, I think of someone who has no life outside gaming.

For that reason, I hope none of you are hardcore gamers. I'm certainly not. I tend to buy the games that reach critical acclaim and stay away from the rest.

I believe there´s no consensus of what that means, actually.

I´d assume that a hardcore gamer is someone who really enjoys videogames a lot, no matter which console or type of game, it´s the kind of person that plays regularly, alone or with friends, and is curious about many different styles of games.

Now, for most people on these forums, (and on a good part of the media), hardcore gamers are people who play a lot and are only interested in playing games with adult, mature content. In this sense, hardcore players are the kind of player that doesn´t enjoy casual or multiplayer games (unless online).

I´ve been playing videogames since the early 80´s, since the old Magnavox and Philips videogames (those with Pong and several variations of it). I played on Atari, NES, Master System, Arcades..... and I still play today on PC, WiiU, 3DS, Xbox360. I can´t tell how many hours I play per week, but I do enjoy playing with family and friends and I´m always playing different games. Sometimes I want to play CoD, sometimes I want do play Just Dance, sometimes I want something more challenging like Fire Emblem, sometimes I just want to have silly fun with NintendoLand. That´s the kind of consumer I am. I hate repetitive gaming sessions. I like variety.

Does it make me a hardcore gamer or not ?
I even don´t care about this "hardcore" label anymore. I prefer just to say that I´m a fan of videogames and that´s all.

I've been playing video games since Pong but I don't consider myself 'core' as I only spend maybe 1-2 hours per week (+1 if you include mobile) playing, and just as likely to play Wii Sports or Angry Birds as I am a FPS or action/adventure.

I no longer think so. I play and read about games all the time, but when I envision "hardcore" I do not see me. Just a gamer who loves the medium as I have for 20+ years.

I call myself a gaming enthusiast, ive gamed since the early 80's and played/owned a high percentage of gaming devices and consoles. Nintendo are my preference as their games best suit my tastes, but i will try any gaming genre.
Last night for instance i played an hour and a half of killzone 2, followed by two hours of Lego City undercover..thats how i roll.
I do keep a healthy balance however, im a husband, father, have a demanding job, and when my responsibilities are taken care of gaming is my way of escapisim (and also drinking lol)

I used to be a core gamer. Not anymore though....
