True.  You make a very good point.  As Black Sabre said above they will be announcing things still so as long as they do that I think it will be fine.  

No Im not saying that.  Obviously Sony and MSFT has the edge with newer hardware but that doesn't mean that it isn't important for Nintendo to show their newest hardware themselves.  Not everybody takes E3 as a competition.  Instead some people focus on each conference individually.


The biggest game event of the year often times gets announcements in news so it would be smart to have announcements.

Most of Nintendo's consumers know nothing about the Nintendo Direct showings. Most of Nintendo's consumers will only hear news regularly through whatever news channel they watch or read online. How is Nintendo going to reach their consumers without a bigger conference to make the news?

Considering how few people know about the Wii U, I think they could get away with pretending they're launching a new console, too.

I don't see why they can't do both the big conference AND smaller features and floor demos for individual titles. Indeed, is that not what usually happens every year? It looks like they're just getting rid of parts of their PR rather than changing it.

Why would they hold numerous Nintendo DIrects without announcements?

So we can enojy watching Iwata do somthing wacky or to bring back non-specific action figure?

I'm fine with Nintendo Directs.  None the less E3 is bigger than Nintendo Direct and has much more press. The goal at E3 is to get as much press and as many people talking as you possibly can.  Every one of those developers, websites, journalists etc are going to go home and write about it and then it is possible for more mainstream sites to post about it like Yahoo news for example.  Not being front and center will take away from a lot of press in my opinion.

That's likely true. However wrong it is to think that way, it does create the impression of "surrender" since we've gotten all wrapped up in the notion of E3 as a contest, and it does take away the one moment a year when even the most apathetic towards Nintendo had eyes on them. At the same time, E3 watchers have been privy to the general mediocrity of the last five years or so: for every Uncharted, a Wonderbook, for every Halo 4, a Disneyland Adventures, for every Kid Icarus Uprising, a Ravi Drums. This way they can focus entirely on the meat, giving each audience what they want directly. No fanboy hype to the businessmen, no charts and figures to the fans.

It may do, it may not do. If any of the journalists going to E3 are actually interested in NIntendo or videogames in general though, they will make sure to watch Nintendo Direct. They will make sure to go to the Nintendo area and play Nintendo games.

Which should be on stage. Alas, we cant have everything we want. Nintendo need to sort out priorities
