Forums - Nintendo - Wii's market share goes below 40%

Pretty crazy considering just 2-3 years ago it was deemed inevitable for it to cross 50% and remain there. People just seemed to have lost interest in it. Something even price cuts couldn't remedy.

Thr thing is they planned on wii having a typical 5-6 year cycle while ms and sony wanted a longer cycle. If all 3 had a normal cycle then wii likely would have stayed around 45-50%

Yes. Is this the first time something that achieved above 40% dropped back below it? Coming out a year early does not count.

Megadrive, PSP, N64.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Sadly some people were litteraly hated on this forums because they believed the Wii will not end up with 50% marketshare and they left the forums cause they could not stand the hate anymore...

Talk about beating a dead horse.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Some might say they didn't cut the price soon enough though.

They kept the price of the Wii above $199 for 34 months.

By comparison the PS2 was kept above $199 for 19 months.

The Wii had supply issues for most of those 34 months.

Price was never the Wii's problem, other than perhaps being priced too low at launch. It was all about content. Kowen's chart takes off after 2009 because NSMBWii was the Wii's last mega-hit title.

It was ... inevitable.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

it was to be expected... (moving along)

A few years ago people were saying it was inevitable that the Wii would pass the PS2 in sales.  At this point, it probably won't even surpass PS1 sales.

it depends on how long they keep supporting it, 5 million isn't completely impossible.  But either way, the wii will likely go down as the most "profitable" home console of all time.  Which is honestly much better than having the largest market share.

Where are the charts on VGChartz that track profit? :)

What does that have to do with anything? :)

but there is this http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=136006 :P

It's actually been under it for a while. Unfortunatly, VGC wants to claim 2mil on shelves for 360/ps3 the last 9months or so
