360 - majorly under-tracked
PSV - under-tracked
Wii - under-tracked
3DS - Spot on, maybe just a tad over-tracked (think it's within margin error)
PS3 - looks spot on
Wii U- Spot on
DS - majorly over-tracked, possibly for 2012 as well.
PSP - Disastrous under-tracking, almost 900% off! 2012 as well...

PS: Europe in VGC includes other areas hence they have to be higher than Nintendo's numbers

PS3 is not spot on. Look at my and ethomaz' posts. It's more undertracked than Wii, though not if measured in percentages.

Yes I counted the last 2 weeks of sales which shouldn't be, so PS3 must be undertracked by almost that amount, ie 100-150k.

This also means 3DS is undertracked? Last two weeks account for around 85k, so looks like a bit undertracked. Probably around 50-80k.

Well we have 3DS at 530k or 56k higher than Nintendo. Could be slightly undertracked indeed, but I do think it's within the margin of error.

I do think it can get 100k from rest of Europe, which would be 50k undertracked. PSV is undertracked by around 40-50k at least. It's at 130k in VGC and that's including rest of Europe..

So the Vita is still hanging in there.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Really good performance by Fire Emblem in France and Germany!

50k FW possible? I'm hoping even higher!

So it's about what we expected. PS3 undertracked around 100k, 360 moreso, and PSP just forgotten about.

I find those digital numbers interesting, however. Thanks to Animal Crossing no doubt.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Embarrassing yet again for vgchartz. They really haven't got a clue.

Wow, really, what is the point of even having discussions based on VGC numbers anymore?

For months this has been a glaring issue and it just seems like nobody cares.

I miss the old VGChartz where you can see how much ioi (and the other staff members but especially ioi) care about this site and how much he loved working on it.

Now it seems that he do not care about this site anymore. It seems he got bored and he just do it because it brings money or another reason other than "love working on it".

In the past, you can see clearly, from the discussion and plans and the site development,  how he realy realy cared, loved, and worked very hard for this site. You don't see this anymore.

I used to visit this site fife or six times a day because I loved it. Now I visit it once a day only because I'm used to doing this and I still didn't find another alternative. Even the early 2007 days, where the members number was much smaller and the site quality was bad, were a lot better than this.

If the 3DS is undertracked, it has some issues elsewhere.  Either in 'rest of world' or last year.  Nintendo has shipped 9.29 million to Other whereas VGC has it selling 10.67 million outside of the US and Japan.  Now that 10.67 million would include other parts of the Americas, but I doubt they make up over 1.4 million.

The platform totals page has Europe+rest of the world at 10.03 million (with two weeks beyond the quarter).  So there is some overtracking outside of Japan and the US somewhere for the 3DS.

Seriously, PSP is surprisingly close to 3DS in Europe o.O. PSP+PSV only 39k behind 3DS and only 77k behind DS+3DS

Just saw that. The gap between 3DS and PSP is smaller this year than it was last year.

This really begs the question though where PS3 is really undertracked. After all, it's undertracked overall by at least a million. Some of it might be in Europe late last year as well as the 100-150k in Europe this year but most of it is probably where VGC have shown they have no idea how to track

We had this same problem last time. European, North American and Japanese data was up to scratch, but there were a Million PS3's (among other consoles) missing in the wild. ioi gave us answers but I cant find the thread.

For people who dont know -

The problem comes from tracking outside of the main markets. The data that comes from these said markets is nigh impossible to collect with a great degree of accuracy and thus the data at times is incomplete. You wont get gfk estimations or NPD estimations from these markets, and official data rarely, if ever, gets released.

Hard to track places include Eastern Europe (Where the PSP will be doing really, really well), Asia, Middle East, China and South America. If you take a good look at the VGC data for North America, Europe and Japan the data shouldnt be too far off in the grand scheme of things. For what it is (Free) you cant really ask for better. People need to remember that VGChartz numbers are estimates first and foremost.

People forget that the numbers are free estimations. They arent fact.

BTW, we should not forget that these are numbers for 7 countries only. These alone show VGC is significantly undertracking most consoles. If you put the other countries in the picture then it's even worse, potentially much worse.
