Forums - Sony - Platinum Games: “You’ll see us on PS4 eventually,” “Bayonetta didn’t sell what we wanted it to”

Very short term of them. I guess they are financially desperate.

pretty much this

Besides, I've been wondering. How does an independant developer get its revenues? Does it receive a lump sum from the publisher, a percentage of the sales revenues or a combination of the two?

Genius.

At least Nintendo is giving them a possibility to build up a franchise. If they hadn't, the franchise would have been dead already.

Actually it's very likely that the franchise already would be dead now if Nintendo hadn't agreed to finance part 2.

I don't expect to see a 3rd one though.

Edit: and I believe SEGA owns the Bayonetta franchise

It was Wii U or nothing according to Platinum.

Man, if he didn't like the Bayo1 numbers he'll hate the Bayo2 sales :P

Eh, between whateVer Nintendo paid and the fact that they're reusing assets it probably doesn't need to sell anything to see them a decent profit.

It'd be stupid to think expectations haven't been adjusted.

Naaah, you're probably right; Bayo2 seems like a pretty safe endeavor for Platinum; but no way is it going to outsell the original title

I dont think it will sell well on any platform TBH, since all the hardcored Bayonetta fans promissed they would kill themselves.

Oh man, you're right! The whole fan base is goaaaan!!! Bayo2 will fail confirmed!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

It's not like they had any choice.  Sega had cancelled Bayo2 due to the poor sales of the first game, before Nintendo decided to partner with them to make the game for WiiU.

Vanquish 2!!! MAKE IT NOW!!!!

Revengeance 2?

"With Revengeance carrying the Metal Gear name and fast-paced gameplay, don’t be surprised if it overtakes Bayonetta as the #1 selling Platinum Games title sooner rather than later."

Yeah, only 800k more to go.

"Sitting at just over a million copies sold, he added that “Bayonetta didn’t sell what we wanted it to sell. We were hoping it was going to do a little bit better than that, though you can’t put it all on the game itself."

Rising has sold more than a million.

In the magical world where Microsoft doesn't exist (AKA playstationlifestyle), yes.

That would be stupid...where did they get the sales for the PS3 version then? VGchartz?

I have no idea, but we know that it did 1.1M PS3+360 in 2010, before its full first christmas in the west:

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/05/bayonetta-moves-1-1-million-units-in-sega-fiscal-q3-2010-results/

It must have sold something since then, so those must be the PS3 sales.

Edit - Damn viodeogame journalists that don't know in which year they live... those are up to December 2009, not 2010. This means that those numbers are shipped. By March 2010 Sega shipped 1.35M (another 250K copies). This means that the initial shipment was sold, so it's quite safe so assume that it was a million seller then, and it must have sold more in the last three years:
