Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo should pay off third parties to get multiplatform games on their console

I agree somewhat. After all, money talks and bullshit walks.

However, I think if Nintendo were to go that route, they might as well invest in more second party companies/games. Stuff like Retro, Monolith Soft/Xenoblade, Bayonetta 2, and in the past - Rare, Silicoln Knights, Left Field, etc.. This way you not only get more games to fill the gaps, but more EXCLUSIVE games, giving more value and incentive to your console, and likely more quality games as Nintendo oversees developement more closely.

They should just fund exclusives, exclusives sell better anyway.

Rol as in that Stoppable chap? I remember him.

You pay for exclusive releases not multiplatform ports. Otherwise you will NEVER stop paying because they would just stop releasing games on your system or subpar junk.

Technically, Nintendo has been working with Japan based 3rd parties (except Konami who I suspect there is legit beef there) since the Gamecube to bring over games. Hasn't really helped due to Nintendo's design choices with their consoles. But if they want to draw more 3rd party support, they will need to gather or create a genre and fanbase on the their console(s) that the 3rd parties can copy and have success on.

You can see examples of it on the Wii (with exercise games and rhythm/music games), the N64 (polygon platformers and to a small degree wrestling games) and even the PSP in Japan (Monster Hunter clones, visual novels and the girl friend simulators).

Nintendo should just pay off Sony and Microsoft not to release consoles anymore, then they'd have 3rd party support by default. Except from EA, of course.

better plan, make a new western dev team. Retro is aweso e and another team would really help there appeal. i personally dont care for western games but i know that western support is needed for WiiU to be a success worldwide and the 3rd parties dont want to make the effort

Don't be daft. They can't afford to buy Microsoft...

Not buy Microsoft, just make it "worth their while" not to release another console. After all, Microsoft and Sony each have only one 1st party IP that is capable of reaching 10m units sold (Halo and Gran Turismo, respectively).

Throwing money at 3rd parties for support like Rol suggested will only result in games on all platforms. Nintendo would be better served spending that money to persuade the competition that it's not worth their time investing in a new console - particularly with the new GoWs from both companies underperforming. Nintendo will effectively become the home for all 3rd party games with zero competition to boot; except EA since they would rather just release their games on PC and sell a small fraction of what they're use to rather than support Nintendo.

they need to get gta at the very least. I don't want to buy GTA5 for my ps3.

I agree with what some others have said here, fund exclusive 3rd party games from both japan and western devs. I was thinking they could do this with some big name franchisea that havent sold well lately like Soul Calibur, Ninja Gaiden, Prince of Persia and of course some new ips
