You pay for exclusive releases not multiplatform ports. Otherwise you will NEVER stop paying because they would just stop releasing games on your system or subpar junk.

Technically, Nintendo has been working with Japan based 3rd parties (except Konami who I suspect there is legit beef there) since the Gamecube to bring over games. Hasn't really helped due to Nintendo's design choices with their consoles. But if they want to draw more 3rd party support, they will need to gather or create a genre and fanbase on the their console(s) that the 3rd parties can copy and have success on.

You can see examples of it on the Wii (with exercise games and rhythm/music games), the N64 (polygon platformers and to a small degree wrestling games) and even the PSP in Japan (Monster Hunter clones, visual novels and the girl friend simulators).
