Forums - Microsoft - RUMOR: Durango details discussed by anonymous source

Hilarious! Motherfuckers went from always on/connected internet, no playing used games, no BC rumors to bitching about batteries.....epic. True or not some people are really showing their asses here.

On a side note, I've been rockin' with Eneloops for a while now and they are great.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

wait why a 360 SOC would be a big cost increase again ??? a brand new XB today goes for 99 bucks in retail stores.... so a 360 SoC would be what 20 bucks COG for MS... it might cut their profit on day one but certainly not hike the launch price....

and people forget something why not use the 360 SoC for background tasks while gaming.... If the Xbox TV is true why not be able to have TV broadcast in overlay in one corner of the screen and Skype VoIP simultaneously in the other corner ( I know I know it's crowding the screen) but hey at least I could follow the news cast, chat with relatives and see them, while not stopping my play session and that could be handled by the 360 SoC.... it makes perfect sense to me and I'm sure there are plenty of other stuff that could be imagined in that way.... use the 360 SoC for everything non gaming and leave the full power of the Durango for the game...

Also batteriez???!?
Ms gunna nickel and dime once again?

XBOX 720 subsidized by Duracell confirmed!

I wouldn't be surprised, but saving money by making the consumer pay for the parts on their own separate bill is what the problem is, when lithiums are dirt cheap on the manufacturers market.

3000mAH NiMH AA batteries cost less than Lithium batteries, are less damaging to the environment, and much easier to produce.

If they improve the battery pack with 3000mAH NiMH AA batteries, I'll be happy.

sorry have an issue with posting on that website lately.... so I was wondering if you had any good site to refer us to.... I'm interested by those batteries.... how do they compare to NiZN ???? I'm binging it right now.... but if you have some info source on hand I'd love to consult them.... thank you in advance...

Based on what I've just read, while NiZn batteries may offer a greater voltage, they have a much poorer lifecycle.  You'd be able to get 500 recharges out of the battery versus 1000 or more.  Also, based on what I read, there aren't commercially available AA batteries.  There are sub-AAs, but not AAs.

What I couldn't get a good fix on was what the mAH was.  If you could get a AA cell with 20AH (10x the amperage of a 2000mAH cell), as are available in a much larger size battery, NiZn would be the best bang for the buck.  They're long-life discharge rate, they offer a a higher voltage and amperage, they're environmentally friendly (in most countries we carry around zinc and nickel in our pocket change every day), and they would be cost effective.

But, thre are issues that the battery industry would have to completely workout first.

EDIT:  To explain this better my conflict.  Yes, the batteries only offer approximately 500 recharges, but at 10x the Amps, that works out to approximately the same as 5000 recharges.  When you compare that to a 2000mAH (or 2AH) NiMH cell's 1000 recharges, you're looking at 5x the life.

Batteries on a controller? that's so 2005... that alone makes this rumor scream fake.

I hope it isn't. I prefer removable rechargable AA batteries over proprietary hard to replace internal batteries that wear out after a few years.

AA batteries require more effort swapping them out etc. They're just a nuisance.

The dualshock lithium ion batteries seem to last for years (I have 2 touching on 3.5 years now) and are quite easy/cheap to replace.
