Forums - Movies & TV - Have you noticed that after a 15-20 year drought, Cartoons are exciting, fun, creative, and smart again?

By the way what makes a "cartoon"?

I love Archer but I won't call it a cartoon its an animated comedy.

Yeah, one of my favorites! :D

as far as kids cartoons, they suck, no detail all look like they were made in ms paint anymore.

Western cartoons today are still a boring and randomized mess since... I dunno 2004? .

Disney Classics, Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, Flinstones etc. These are real cartoons that atleast made you laugh and were fun to watch, any of these would kick Adventure Time back to the sh!thole it came from.

Aaaaw hell yeah! I nominate this thread to best thread this year!

I''ve also noticed how the cartoons have become much much better since the mid 90s! This trend must have started somewhere 2005 or something... the super hero cartoons became much better and that new transforms (animated it was called) was the best since G1 imho. Turtles also made a return.

Nowadays I'm a dedicated follower of both the new Transformers and the new Turtles!

Well RAfux, I did not want to take up the whole title area and put in a bunch of different words for what I meant, but that would count. The same would be for Family guy I think.

@ Danne

I am not saying that I am out looking for cartoons, but at least they are not horrible if my kids have to watch them like they were for a long while. It was spongebob or nothing IMO. Ed, Edd, and eddy? So dumb! Rugrats....meh. Whatever else? Blah! New Scooby doo, dora, etc. That was what happened. Dora and all those types of shows became big so they took up much of networks budgets. It was only until recently that networks and cable stations started to fund other shows again.

I was actually asking what makes a cartoon, South Park and Family Guy are products of the 90s and I won't call them cartoons, I don't know they seem adult oriented to me same with Archer and Ugly Americans. I'm trying to think some cartoon I like from the 2010s but I don't like any.

I disagree, cartoons today bore me to tears and some of them are aimed at stoners and ironic manchilds.

I tried watching Adventure Time on Netflix, based on some buzz I'd heard scattered here and there.

I can only assume that the intended audience meets both those criteria.

Like most things, I think you have to catch a good episode to get into it. I am sure there are some lame episodes as well. Maybe that is what you tuned into? It is a great cartoon though. Almost as good as Regular show. I would say that it is actually aimed more at kids though.

I watched the entire first season, which is what they have on Netflix at the moment. In fairness, there are some shows that take at least a season to get their bearings (I'm looking at you, ST: TNG!).

I miss Toonami.

Yeah, I have no idea how or why cartoons suddenly became better, only that I found myself watching them again around 2008 :p

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

today most cartoons are simply put sick and disgusting but there are still some I would call them ingenious like gumball..

If we're talking about cartoons for kids then no all of them have been terrible. Cartoon Network went downhill a long time ago, most of Nickelodeon's shows are boring now. And Disney only makes good cartoon movies now. But for ones like Family Guy and Archer, they're good but get to be too stupid to watch sometimes.
