Forums - Nintendo - Story-wise, where does Metroid go from here?

As for Metroid 5, it can't be that much of a challenge to explain that scientists found a way to fix Samus. It would also double as explanation why she has to start with barebones equipment yet again. Regarding metroids, it won't be hard to make the statement that SR388 wasn't the only planet in the universe that was inhabitated by metroids. It was never established that all planets in Metroid's universe were already discovered and explored. All things considered, the developers can drop a couple of screens with text in the beginning of the game and no Metroid fan will complain about these easy and lazy fixes.

And Samus acting against orders of the Galactic Federation in Metroid Fusion... well, it came to light that a few corrupt souls within the G.F. were acting on their own in the B.S.L. incident, so Samus's record is clear. Adam Malkovich's AI is a thing of the past, because Samus gets her spaceship back.

Didn't Sakamoto mention that Samus' changes after Fusion wore off or something?  So she's back to ground zero with her armour and stuff.  I agree with the rest.

Exposition in Metroid games makes noname

Bad juju happens on mysterious planet. Bounty hunter arrives, kicks ass, takes names, gets fun toys, slays evil, leaves. Maybe strips to bikini later, dunno. Lines of dialogue spoken = 0. noname

(In case I'm being too subtle, this is my innocuous way of saying I'm indifferent to the continuity, and firmly believe that less is more in the Metroid universe. Subtle, huh?)

That could make Khuutra return. To tell us about the misplaced objectification of Samus Aran.

That's not objectification, it's tradition.

It's written into a corner.

Reboot is it's only hope.

I LOVE ICELAND!

I don't know a lot about the story (I've seen some retrospectives, but never played the metroid games, besides the first one.), but what I like to see is a reverse progression in the next game. You see, all metroid games are about exploration and gathering new toys to play with. And as far as I understand, Samus had a fusion with some alien stuff the last time we saw her. Let's say in the next game Samus is dying, because of the sideeffects, and the last hope she has, is a cryptic message about a place (planet) where she can heal. She still has all the abilities she had in the last game (the GBA one I think?) When she arrives and fights a couple of things (space aliens, and stuff), she found a well (or anything space thingy) and altough she loses one of her ability, but she is healed a bit too. And a game progression would about less and less old abilities (of course she could get new ones later on...), and more health. It could be unique, specially with a killer story, and I'm sure the Metroids can fit there somehow. :)

Thinking about it, time travel is always a solution, so they can reboot it, anytime they want, but I'd like more of a soft reboot. Reboots can be bad or good, could make or brake a franchise.

Of course everbody thinks about DMC and Tomb Raider, and they are good analogies, because they need the main character, unlike GTA, Final Fantasy or Elder Scrolls, and those can be (and sometimes have been) rebooted from time to time. But Nintendo always reboots, and usually makes very good games. Look at Zelda. Nobody complaints, that the main character is not the same Link, and I certainly didn't here anyone questioning the Mario continuity. Maybe Samus needs the same treatment.

Some evil alien race clones her and then Samus ends up making out with the clone, happy ending for everybody.

They've done the clone thing.

Twice.

Dark Samus doesn't count, that thing is ugly, need like 2 hot ones all over each other without their suits.

Id like to see a game on wii u in the style of prime thats a sequel to fusion and on 3DS an other m style (while fixing its many flaws) remake of metroid 2

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I'd like to know what that mysterious ship at the end of MP3 was about. Curious to see them explore that in Prime4.
