Forums - Gaming - Square Enix: MMO is not performing to the level we anticipated.

Their development speed is so terrible, maybe losing money will make them understand. Get better or get out.

That's what happens when a company known for linear games takes one one of the most non-linear genres out there.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Yeah, I still cannot wrap my head around this: Exclusive Wii MMO !

DQX could've been great on the Wii, Square Enix just doesn't like money, it seems. They seem to like to screw up a lot of things recently.

I agree... the best plataform for MMO like DQX is PC and port to PS3 (the most FF and DQ users are in PlayStation)... in any case Nintendo could release to all plataform to make more money.

They choose the right plataforms for FFXIV... PC and PS3... but the game is a BOMBA

Really? I wonder how are you going to back that up.

SE makes an exclusive MMO for the Wii

Even the Vita would have made more sense. Its portable (japanese seem to like that) and it actually has an online infrastructure.

Bold: Just no, ...no, I can't even put words to reply this statement.

Underlined: So, Wii doesn't? Besides the initial heavy traffic of servers, I haven't read anything about online problems.

hey they only said mmo didn't meet the expectations, not that they lost money with that. maybe they just expected to make so much profit with it to get back all the money they lost for other games lol

I think it is pretty know the JRPG users are in PlayStation.

The JRPGs sells better on PS3 than Wii or 360... a Dragon Quest on PS3 will sell better than Wii or 360... it is like Final Fantasy.

Plus the PS3 users are more used to online play than Wii users... MMO is suppose to to better on PS3 than Wii.

JRPG + MMO = PS3

PS. I removed the portables because a MMO needs very good online play and the portables didn't have it yet (I expect better online play with portables with 4G devices).

For the love of god Wada chickened out and released FF XIII on the 360 but kept DGX as a Wii exclusive ? Brilliant Wada, just brilliant.

As much as I wanna blame Wada for that one, I honestly don't think he can touch Dragon Quest.  I think all Dragon Quest related decisions are made by Horii, or he has the final say.  For instance, I've never understood why Dragon Quest 1-7 DS remakes were never ported to iOS when every Final Fantasy up to 6 has.  Even Final Fantasy 3 got ported over from the DS.

While I agree with you that there are more JRPG fans on the PS3, I'm not sure this is the strongest argument when you just admitted that FF XIV is a flop even though it's on the 'right' platforms :P

FFXIV is fa flop like a game lol... even Square Enix admited the game is bad and remade a complete new game to be launched.

DQX didn't seen to be a flop.

It wasn't, people just don't have to pay a subscription to pay since the game has happy hours.  I'm not sure if they don't have micro transactions though.  If they don't, then the game can't possibly make its budget back with those sales.

FF XIV hasn't been given a chance to show how it'll perform on PS3 yet, though.

And unfortunately, when it does release it'll suffer a similar situation to DQX on Wii.  Released too late onto a platform soon to be replaced.  It's a slightly better situation since PS3 isn't completely dead, I suppose.
