Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's new headquarters under construction

"The new building will house 1500 people, with a hope of unifying various Nintendo divisions (handheld and home console engineers, for instance). This will hopefully optimize development time on both systems, with optimized tools and the like as well."

Sounds good to me. Their HD development in particular could use a boost.

They've been talking about expansion and re-organization that would take place this year. The building is probably part of that.

Wonder whats going to happen to the famous old block building, will they still use it or is it going to be demolished!

didn't they say they will put the guys from the old headquarters + the guys working in another building together in the new building? that would be at least people from two buildings they put in the new one and would also explain the bigger size but maybe i am wrong.

If you take a close look at that first picture, you can actually spot 13 Nintendo Ninjas.

There was talk of a complete re-structure in both hardware and software.  Myamoto was supposedly going to step away from the re-structured EAD and lead new, young teams.  The portable and home console departments would be brought together.  I think most of the people that are going to be working at the big new headquarters are, like you say, already employed and just needing better, centralized digs.

Well, at least they are working on something.

But this is nothing new, the news of this building are from 1 year ago

I know it, it's just that some are reacting like this was something new... when it isn't. The only new thing is that now we know (or can deduce) that this will be used for the unified development teams of handheld and home consoles whereas before we didn't know what will they use it for.

Relax.

No probs JEMC, I thought it was aimed at me that's all lol, so just to confirm the old building is still the main headquarters and this is basically an expansion of sorts?
