The one bad thing she did?  Invented New Labour.

How many of the policies did Labout overturn?  None.  She won the argument big time and socialism was killed in her time in office.  For that alone I thank her.

I feel like those two are contradictions, and I agree with the second. The invention of New Labour was brought about when Labour realised that Thatcher had done far too well for anyone to ever buy anything like Harold Wilson and Michael Foot again. Again, I respect them for having conviction, but Michael Foot as a prime minister would have been an unmitigated disaster.

Better a sleaze with some good ideas (Tony Blair) than a respectable man with entirely the wrong view of the world (Foot).

Its an intentionally contradictory statement and is completely correct.

There isnt any point to be honest.  I lived through that time so my view, be deep rooted belief, is based on experience... it isnt going to change.

Not being funny with you, just being honest.  Now... come on city... at least win this game to wipe the smiles off the Man Ure faces.

Damn, I thought she had been dead for years already. -_-
I bet the situation in the UK right now is similar to when Swedish prime minister Olof Palme got murdered '86. Half the country in mourning, the rest bathing in champagne. I don't know enough about Thatcher to "choose side" but I find it absolutely disgraceful to celebrate someone's death. Well, unless we're talking Hitler or Pol Pot.

Honestly, I didn't know she was still alive I found out she was alive when she died.

For the life of me I don't understand why she's so disliked by half of Britain.

I mean, the other option was pure disaster... I think even most that hate her will admit that a lot of the stuff she did had to be done and without her, the UK would be worse off.

...yet people still hate her.

Confusing.

I wonder how non-Brits view her?

In the US people basically think of her as Reagan with tits whether or not they like her.

Democrats qoute Thatcher a lot more then Reagan.

A lot of her detractors compare Britain pre-Thatcher to Britain post-Thatcher, which isn't entirely fair, because they ought to be comparing Britain post-Thatcher to what Britain post-Wilson and Foot would have been.

I was only born in 1992, so I never really appreciated what Thatcher did. I grew up in a Labour area near Liverpool, my dad and close family were Conservative though, but overall, I got a positive impression for Thatcher. The only people I get annoyed at are those who don't seem to know who she is or dislike her just for the sake of disliking her (cause they don't actually know what she did >.>).

or are brainwashed by their localtity and family tradition...  thats the problem with UK politics.  Most people havent got a clue. the only thing worse than them?  Champagne solcialist, or the comfortable traditionla middle scalss that want to look after the poor poor working classes.  Winds me up.

I like it when people like you... and me... kick against the grain.  I grew up next to (and went to school on) the biggest council estate in my locality.  I didnt sulk and think I'm screwed, the rich people hate us etc etc.  I decided that Iwould better myself and went for it.  You can be waht you want to be in Britain, mainly due to Thatcher.
