Forums - Sony - If Gran Turismo released every 2 years how much would each sell?

IMO, if it came out every 2 years, it'd sell 4~6 million. However, that's just a number being pulled out of my ***.

All of this, of course, is just my opinion.

Skyrim 100%'d. Dark Souls 100%'d.
Dark Souls > Skyrim.
Halo 4 is the best damn FPS since Halo 3.

The games are just too similar to release that often. Why not just release one at the start of the generation and then constantly support with new stuff over the years. Games like Burnout Paradise gained so much from DLC. A GT could too.

That likely isn't as financially worth while as more frequent releases.

Bear in mind EA stopped putting out Burnout games and now has that developer making Need For Speed games.

I don't see why not, Polyphony spend too much time developing them anyway, GT 5 was 5 years after GT 4 and GT 5 is nearly 3 years old already and we've heard not even much of a leak on a new one yet. I don't think they could release them more often unless they hired far more people. Hopefully a PS4 GT will come sooner rather than later. Also, i think every 2 years is too often as Gran Turismo is a game that is meant to have many hours put into it over a number of years, especially when they put 1000 cars in it!

As, for Burnout i know they haven't released one since Paradise. It's a shame really that was an amazing game but Need for Speed has improved alot since Criterion started making them.

1. I really doubt the heavily bundled Prologue release covered the development cost of the mega budget GT5. I think we'd see that strategy used more often if it worked as well as you think. Why are games $60 if apparently selling a $40 beta can make a mega budget game profitable? Use a little logic.

2. The four Forza games this gen combined have sold over 5 million units within their first 10 weeks on the market and have good legs even without bundling.

3. The Forza series has likely sold a lot of DLC and made profits from micro transactions. Even when MS gives out free copies of Forza there is potential people are buying DLC. The Forza 4 bundles omitted content as DLC.

Either way, it looks like MS has found a strategy that works for them and that's why they keep pushing Forza games on the market.

Halo is not a better comparison, Halo trounces GT in profits. I mean the Halo series has sold about 40 million units this gen a lone. It'll probably do another 40 million next gen. Halo 5 and 6 pretty much guarantees about 20 million units sold. Do I even need to get into merchandising? And we don't even know how much Sony pays in licensing fees in Gran Turismo. You think car manufacturers let Sony keep all that money?

Really?

- $60 million is de buget to develop GT5:P + GT5 (yeap... there are the same development... GT5:P is just a demo in earty estage of GT5)
- Only Prologue generate over $200 million in revenue
- GT5 more $500 million in revenue

Remove the dev costs ($60 million) plus the market and the cost to print, ships and created the manual...

Added the over 2 million DLC sold for GT5.

You have what GT5 did for Sony.

GT profit is more close to Halo franchise this gen than Forza... I have certain about that... even so the Halo sold a lot more this gen with three main games that have a dev cost combined close to $200 million... and the Halo marketing bugest is way bigger than GT one too.

But you forget his point about merchandising Halo is the most merchandised game by Microsoft and one of the most merchandised video game franchises of all time the only other games that make more money from merchandising are all Nintendo IP's.  Also a lot of advertising/marketing  for Halo was the free kind thanks to merchandising you had Halo Slurpees, Mountain Dew, and Doritos just to name a few.

What do you mean about "merchandised"? Products sold using the franchise? Like the Gran Turismo Boutique? Where you can buy GT-branded shirts and outerwear?

Oh come on guys, let's not argue about Halo vs GT. Both has been highly successful and nobody can take that away from either one.

Games like GT will only be lowered in quality if releases so often. Just like Grand Theft Auto, sequels are best released every few years in order to avoid franchise fatigue.

Your thread just died without GT vs. Halo

When it come to merchandising Gran Turismo is probably not even in the top 100.  But I'm pretty sure that Halo is in the top 10 or close to it.  There is Halo clothing of all kinds, novels, comic books, animated movies, toys and tons of other stuff.

Nice to know... when I travel in other countries I never saw that... I think it is more US only... I need to visit US some day.
