Forums - Sony - AMD on the PS4: We gave it the hardware Nvidia couldn't @ GDC 2013

The next gen console Hardware is this time indeed out dated from the release.

A good interview showcasing AMDs current mentality. I really hope their APUs start paying off for them in a big way because they've been struggling lately.

It's the same every gen, this time it's simply easier to compare because they use the same architecture as a PC.

Not quite... but consider what a top GPU looked like twelve years ago...

There's no way consoles can compete when they keep scaling up like that. PCs can still take it, but how on Earth you are going to fit a Titan on a console-sized box? Look how it turned out to Microsoft when they tried to scale consoles up a bit like happened to GPUs.

Thankfully there's that thing of diminishing returns who increasingly shortens the gap between monsters like Nvidia's latest GPUs and our little consoles...

Why is the "bitter" comment silly? Nvidia has come out at every opportunity to diss the next gen systems.

Yeah. Nvidia are the ones to have made excuses as to why their hardware isn't in any of the new consoles. Most people, except for most of their fans, are taking their comments as an indication that they are bitter. Stating that a 1k bucks GPU is going to be more powerful than a 500ish console? No shit! Who would have thought...

In other news, the atmosphere makes the day sky blue.

From what I remember though, most R&D was focussed around CPU tech in previous generations (especially for Sony) which was always difficult to compare because most console CPUs used non-X86 architecture. The GPU on the other hand, has gradually become more and more important in the creation of a high performing console.

You're right though, there's no way a console can offer GPUs like Titan or even an AMD HD7970; the power draw and heat would be too great. They have to work on efficiency to make up for some of the short fall, but that's what consoles have always been about.

Which is quite true, than take into account that this may even be a 3D stacked TSV thus no extra  clock cycle step's to go through for latency is if there is no north or South bridge being off Soc to go through between it and the I/O than reduction of having a latency Toll would be quite likely, on the thread to spawn  off

Accelerated Rendering

which is employed in many SOC's today

because every thing is on a multi-stacked wafer all on the same die. the fact that its 176 GB/sec connection Bus for the chips communication is going to be quite effective in lowering any real bottle necking latency that may arise with the developer's clean code implementation.

100% lover "nothing else matter's" after that...

Proud psOne/2/3/p owner.  I survived Aplcalyps3 and all I got was this lousy Signature.

^ That's if AMD did not screw up like in the Barcelona architecture. I'm crossing my fingers that they can pull it off. Intel and Nvida need good competition.

There is no way for AMD to compete with Intel. They have chances with low-priced laptops or PCs but Intel is way off now in terms of performance. The P4 taught them a lesson they will never forget.
