Wow, nvidia is really obsessed with the PS4, aren't they?

mmh, doubtful. they deliver a lot of chips to smartphones and they are trying to expand this business. i think there is a lot more money to make with tegra than amd does with ps4 (and nextbox, of course).

What is there to be doubtful about? Nvidia has been dissing the next generation of consoles for months now. It's clear that they're very salty.

I remember they said that nextgen is already outdated - there is more powerful hardware already available. As a company this is just usual business, that's all. They want PC-guys to pay for "the way it's meant to be played". Nothing more, nothing less.

Oh, not just that. Nvidia has been bitter about consoles for a long time now. Like when they said that the next gen of consoles will be the last. Or when they said that they let AMD have the next generation of consoles. Or when they said that the PS4 GPU equals a low-end nvidia one. And one this. All in the space of a few months? Is it usual business to make so many statements about a competitor in such a short span of time?

1. Yes, it is.

2. What statement isn't true? There are some which can be argued but these statements are not way off!

1. No, it isn't.

2. No one said it's not true. Of course, a $400-$1000 GPU is going to be more powerful than a $150 one. My point, which still stands, is about how nvidia is butthurt about being the least relevant graphics card manufacturer in gaming.

1. Agree to disagree, this leads to nothing.

2. Can you backup your statement that nvidia is the least relevant graphics card manufacturer in gaming? Keep in mind, they are also powering a lot of Android-devices, the PS3 *and* sell graphic-solutions for pc (and notebooks).

2. Well, AMD GPUs are in every next gen system (and the 360). How many pc gamers that have nvidia cards are there out here compared to consoles?

It is your turn to prove your statement that nvidia is the least relevant gpu manufacturer. Looks as if you don't have any *data* that supports your point. It's ok to argue this way (read: with no data) if someone has a strong belief in his own opinion but it doesn't help discussing.

To show you what I mean, look over here: http://www.nasdaq.com/article/nvidias-dominance-in-gpus-and-higher-tegra-sales-lift-outlook-cm218257

If you can find anything to prove your point, feel free to provide a link, too.

As I said gaming GPUs, not just any GPU. PC gaming is still relatively niche compared to console gaming (when it comes to everywhere but China).

Ok, we can quit this here, as the subject slightly turns in a selective way and the discussion will end in no good as it is not objectively measurable what is a gaming gpu, even if you would give a (biased) definition.

mid-end gaming PC now (months before its launch), low-end gaming PC in few years, platform flushed with horrible looking ports of PC games mostly with bad frame rate and or low resolution.

The PS4 buzz stinks with Vita type fiasco, platform hyped by many bought by few.

Steam Box if done properly can wipe the floor with PS4

Anyone who knows anything about markets knows the Steam box by default is out of the price range and really doesnt even matter to a mass audience. The first reveal started at $900 and rising. PS4 will wipe the floor with the steam box. Now lets get this straight, PC gaming as a whole is coming back because of casual gaming and you guess it Steam who has affordable pricing now. When exclusives are being made the Xbox 720 and PS4 and exclusives are being made for their audience its really PC gaming who loses. Console gaming has never been as been as it has been without Sony, so I think the PS4 deserves it fair buzz and PC gamers can get their seconds to brag over multiplats that console gamers are already playing with enough graphics that they need.

in case of steambox we'll see, as i wrote if done properly can wipe the floor with PS4.

in case of Sony i see no sympathy for their presence in console market, their idea to bring console gaming to more mature audience is most horrible thing that happened to this market, because this demography is not mature, if you think that gunz, blood and gore is mark of maturity then, well i respect your opinion, but i can't agree.

You're forgetting one thing.
Titan is a new uArch.

I stoped here because Titan is not a neh uArch... it is the same Kepler uArch launched in early 2012... the new uArch will come only late this year.

Sorry to disapoint you.

The news is that ethomaz is trying to make nvidia look bad and generally making a sub-standard effort to mislead. I can't believe he didn't notice the non linear scale on the vertical axis of the graph. That instantly voids the silly zooming in showing the Geforce TiTAN is only slightly more powerful than the next gen consoles. :D

that gap is indeed 3x, I wouldn't be surprised if ethomaz thinks his local grocery store is 2x the size it is because of those mirrors that are placed at the end of food sections too. :p

The graph is not mime... put all your hate in nVidia

I didn't give opinion in the OP... all the news was released by nVidia presentation in Japan.

PS I'm a nVidia fanboy and never bought a AMD GPU even when the AMD had better GPUs than nVidia.

LOL...you sound like the PC gamers when Nintendo was on top in the 90's. Sony made PC gaming practically pointless when all the top devs came to consoles full time. Definitely agree to disagree. Steam Box wont even scratch Sony or Microsoft.

P.S.

How ironic that MS came to console to help PC gaming out against Sony and only ended up hurting them further.

How would Nvidia know 720's specs? They aren't even making the GPU in it...

I think all the industry knows... and nVidia needs to support the Nextbox with PhysX and others techs.

Not sure why people get excited about this. They haven't lied or anything, Titan is up to around 3x 7850 in performance.

Could next-gen consoles be on the same level, and have UE4 run on it with SVO instead of static GI? Sure. It would cost $899, have TDP and size of small nuclear reactor, and make MS and Sony bleed money.

Would that be better?

I was thinking the same thing. I mean unless they are going off the rumored specs. Nvidia has an axe to grind with console manufacturers at this point. AMD will be making money on every Wii U, PS4, and 720 sold. There is no doubt that the PC has the stronger hardware. The issue has always been optimization. You'll never get the most out of your PC hardware because if developers actually coded for the latest greatest graphic's card tech, they'd be eliminating 99% of their potential software sales.

Nvidia recently obtained documents from AMD when a few employees desided to quit and move over to Nvidia with said sensitive information.  If anything, I bet that how Nvidia knows what AMD is doing with these consoles.

Then someone is going to be in deep trouble. That's illegal. A similar thing happened when Hyundai hired a quality engineer from Toyota.

1. Yes, it is.

2. "butthurt" doesn't come into it. nvidia isn't a playground bully or a person with emotions. It's a company that will do anything to make money within the remit of the law. That's the purpose of a for profit company and that's what it's shareholders would want. There's nothing evil going on here, it's just standard PR sparring. Don't take it so personally :) It really isn't personal, you know when you read say a tabeloid newspaper that's full of spin and all that, that journalist who has written it is doing their job. The purpose is to sensationalize and put across and agenda. Nvidia has an agenda just like every other company in the world, no big deal.

I'll also draw you to the fact that AMD was doing this kind of thing for years back in the days where it's CPUs ran at a lower clock speed compared to Intel's but did more work per clock and they rated their CPUs in relation to Intel calling a 1.86Ghz CPU a 2100+ for example. Is that dishonest? Is that misleading? Is that wrong, no, it's business.

Don't get suckered into this and think that it's all about the end customer for a product they have decided not to invest in, it's not, it's all about the MONEY, it's all about the perception, and NOT the perception of YOU or ME or anyone on a gaming website, but the perception of investors and shareholders and people who may be interested in the Gefore Titan etc.

Very hard to prove and only deep trouble after years of legal back and forth, have to remember that the article at pcmag.com is just that, an article.
