Forums - Nintendo - Wii U sales up in NA. It seems games DO make a difference.

Wonder what the sales numbers would be when Smash Bros hit

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Yeah the same thing can be said for PSVita so similar comments and expectations ought to spawn from supporters of this notion when referring to both platforms.

The problem with the Vita is that it has gotten the wrong kind of games for a handheld.

So you just contradicted your whole thread by saying that new games don't necessarily make a difference because they depend on the type of game? Wow.

You actually opted to crap on your own thread just to take a jab at the PSVita. That is some strong grudge.

Not actually when it comes to PSV. In Japan just recently Soul Sacrifice and Senran Kagura both sold more than Lego City in the US, game which is the WiiU game you are referring to when talking about WiiU's boost in sales.

You must be misunderstanding me here...

I wasn't trying to take a jab at the Vita as much as explaining why it hasn't sold much up until this point despite getting some games. It doesn't contradict my conclusion that the right games can puch lots of systems.

This doesn't make sense. Do you mean which:

a) Vita has not experienced boost similar to the WiiU with the release of Soul & Kagura

b) Vita has experienced boost but it could sell more

If the answer is A:

Go to the charts and see the difference between the week for Vita before those two games and the weeks of release. Those games sold more than Lego. Vita experienced a significant increment in sales comparable to the WiiU.

If the answer is B:

You can't deny that Vita has released right games for the handheld as it released games that sold better than your Lego example and that pused the hardware and you have to either accept you were wrong about your initial comment regarding the Vita, or that you are wrong about your comment for the WiiU getting "right games". Vita has gotten "right games" that have pushed the hardware, the same situation that has turned out for the WiiU this week this week.

There are always games that could sale better. The fact here is that the Vita get games that push the hardware like the WiiU. It could perform way better but doesn't change the fact that it is selling. If you think that Vita's current sales due to software are an indicator that it doesn't get games fit for a handheld in spite of the boost in sales then it seems that the WiiU hasn't sold much up until this point despite getting some games because the games it has got are the wrong kind for consoles. That must be your opinion because both console's performance is not much different in sales.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I don't think the Wii U has gotten the right games either, as I stated before in the thread. I just think the bump from Lego City proves that it is software that drives sales. Does that make my comment more coherent for you?

I LOVE ICELAND!

new game releases DOES make a difference. It should be common knowledge, but there seems like some people are denying that fact.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but that's not exactly a fact. Games are released all the time, but they don't always affect hw. Even gt4 (if memeory serves- I remember reading an article about it) didn't help ps360 hw sales when it launched, despite the impressive sales of the game itself.

Gravity Rush and Persona 4 are considered two of the best games available on psvita, yet they didn't help hw sales notably. Gravity Rush increased sales, but not nearly as much as people predicted/expected. Same with dreamcast and all the amazing games that certain people keep praising.

In many cases they do. A prime example is new super Mario Mario Bros Wii. There are tons of other examples, I'm sure. However, it not a fact  that because a game sells well, it will affect hw sales too.

At any rate. Good to see some positive news about Wii U. I hope it starts doing better, though hopefully it will also force Ninty to rethink their whole strategy with their next console.

Of course some games are duds. But it really is the killer apps (or bredth of software) that gives momentum to a console.

I LOVE ICELAND!

29K this week in America alone, big improvement from last week, just because of Lego City, pretty amazing if you ask me. I wonder how much damage a real AAA blockbuster could do.

I thought software only helped Sony/Microsoft consoles?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Monster Hunter 3 also gave the Wii U a 2.5X increase in Europe.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

enough to shut up the haters

I think the increase is more related to Bestbuy and a few other retailers putting the WII U on sale.

Will wait to see NPD numbers. VGChartz is overtracking like crazy lately.
