hmm it would have been interesting to see how much of a polished game MW would have been on PS360 if it had released now along with wii U. And yeah good luck with that DLC

If I hadn't just bought a car and several open bills for college I would have bought NfS for sure. Good ports need to be supported as you said and since Most Wanted was my favorite NfS game it really would have fit. Oh well... |
Yeah, unfortunately there are other things in life besides games that require money. ;)
I'm in a better spot with cash now than I have been for years, I've been cutting costs pretty aggressively, and some people who owe me money are finally paying me back, so NFS, here I come! Along with Bioshock Infinite and Gears Judgement, it should keep me going until Nintendo gets some more games out.
Being the pessimist I am, I half-expected this to be another Black Ops 2 / Arkham City where devs promised a superior port and delivered a shoddy one. My all but decimated faith in third party Wii U games has been given a much needed lift now that Criterion has actually delivered.

The night lighting difference is pretty easily noticeable without forensic eyeballing. The improved reflections can also be seen without side-by-sides, the wet roads in the PS3/360 versions are markedly lighter because they reflect more sky, less buildings. I do agree that side-by-sides have gone a bit far this gen, but since I'm one of those poor sods who find it easy to get caught up in forensic type stuff, I'm not complaining... XD |
I agree that the lighting is the most easily noticable difference. I mean if you have the option of multiple versions you wouldn't want to get an obviously inferior version but for the most part that's not usually the case. People can take it too far.
I come across alot of the same kind of attitude on photography websites that I frequent. Many of these guys couldn't take a great picture to save their lives but they can spot the most miniscule 'difference' in low light performance at a thousand paces.

Another 5 months won't turn less than 500MB of RAM into 1GB. ;)
Besides, it was Criterion's 4th/5th game for PS3/360 respectively, but only their first Wii U game, so I doubt the PS3/360 versions suffered for being released earlier.

Yeah, but I'm really proud I don't need the help of my parents (well, not DIRECT help. I still live with them for free, but that's pretty normal at age 17 :D), since I get paid for attending college by the company that currently employs me (being a student basically is my job right now). Paying bills and being able to buy a car all by myself without having to lend money at this age makes me proud, who cares if I have to wait a few months before being able to buy ALL the games I want. You need to set priorities in life :D

No amount of time for code optimization is enough,. And 500mb of extra ram just for blurry buildings reflection on wet roads! great

I'm a University student too, though I'm 24 and in my last semester. I'm paying my own way through a combination of government funding and some money I have saved away from work.
No car for me though; driving terrifies me, I'm afraid I'll end up killing someone with my poor attention span and distractability. Funny then that I am getting NFS; maybe its a subconscious substitute? ;) Thanks to digital foundry I now know it has better textures, reflections, and framerate than real driving... :p

But the PS3/360 will be nearer their limit with NFS than Wii U, because the devs have years and years more time to optimize and squeeze the juice from them, while Wii U is unfamiliar.
And in addition to being higher quality than the PS3/360 reflections, the Wii U ones are accompanied by higher resolution textures and a smoother framerate.
It seems during gameplay all versions are at a pretty good 30fps lock, while during cutscenes the WiiU is the smoothest. In the youtube video differences of texture quality aren't too apparant and the only thing that stood out to me in the pictures was in picture 3 the Hamburger Deluxe shield right above the yellow car.
Compared to the other versions the WiiU seems to suffer a bit from black crush though, but maybe that can be corrected with other TV/console settings.
