16GB GDDR5 ram confirmed.

Ha ha ha!  Or 16GB DDR4 RAM! and a 40 GB Solid State Hard Drive too!

I wonder if there is a change they will push it back to 2014.  New chips coming out later this year, are a nice big step up- better than we have seen in a few upgrades in both power and efficiency.

They could drop the 360's price and mess up the other consoles.  I still think they will probably launch this year.

Still nothing at Game Developers Conference (GDC) so perhaps they are running behind?

Or they are nostalgic – May 2005 360 debut, want it in May again.

Or they just like teasing us!

Heh.. I think chances are slim, they won't give Sony the holidays all for themselves. They're probably trying to secure exclusive deals from third party developers (timed exclusives and DLC) for their unveil and preparing for E3. Think it's way too late to change hardware now, apart from adding more of the same ram type and maybe (and this is a big maybe) up the clock speeds.

I honestly don't think that's a smart thing to do

I wonder if this has any credence to the rumors that MS is having a hell of a time getting good yields out of their APU design.

Are they having those issues right now? I thought those cleared up end of last year. Maybe this is where Sony is putting the money they saved by going x86 and having AMD do Microsoft Beastie Boys's sytle.

Huh? MS is going TSMC, and Sony is either going TSMC and/or GF. GF has a lower track record against TSMC when it comes to yields on 28nm lines, so one could actually postulate that yields(Sony) <= yields(MS)

I think May was when MS announced the Xbox 360 on MTV and that worked out pretty damn good for them. But this guy is a tech blogger so it's not an official statement from MS. I doubt he would tweet it unless he trusted his source so he's probably right, but I'm going to consider it as much of a rumor as the April rumor.

The 360 had a weak launch though, with very little hype. Its what they did from late 2006 onwards which was good...

They've added power to the box

I guarantee it

Well I don't know if it would be that good. Changing specs in the last second may frustrate 3rd parties and another RROD debacle is in the air.

1.  Adding power wouldnt piss off developers, in fact they would love it.  They can add power without changing the fundamental architecture

2.  It wouldnt be "last minute" as any hardware couldve been in development for months and theres still nearly a year before console release

MS has billions of dollars in cash.  If they want to add power they can

But they can't buy time with all their billions. Changing chips costs you six months, at least. Adding gddr, for example, means redesigning the whole addressing scheme (new cpu dies, new gpu dies, new whatever-else-is-accessing-the bus-chips), and making the sram a very expensive, almost useless feature. Adding more ram? Will sound cool, is pointless if you stand equal at 8G ram. Adding a share button? well, that's one toughie since it required very clever hardware within the PS4, so slapping on "something similar" this late will break a lot of existing things. What else can you add in power? Oh, I see, Kinect2 advertising $, lots of advertising $, and at least 15 dancing games and 67 throw-your-arms-around-mini-games?

Releasing a console this fall means going into production within the next weeks. It also means that all components have been ordered, and all contracts have been sealed. Breaking contracts now? Cool, pay a 30%-?% penalty on every component you do no longer want. You are possibly looking at a high 8digit number here..

I agree unlikey they not release this year.  Plus, haven't they already purchased a bunch of chips? They can't really upgrade chips they already have purchased can they?

But I wouldn't be surpized if they are tweaking things.  Like you suggested Ram, Clock Speeds.

What else might they do?  OR what else might you want?

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Everybody is expecting a weaker machine so the forums could celebrate. What happens if:
- both consoles are equal spec per spec ?
- MS plays a sony PS 2 moment ?
- MS comes with a beast of machine?

Aren't all these related to the announcement strategy?

Ex Graphics Whore.

Anyone else thinking.....

With the recent Gamestop annoucements (you know saying good relations with retailers) and Simcity....

That they are delaying it to rethink their used games policies?

The final dev kit was most likely done a few months ago so not much can really be done to really change it. Maybe a few tweaks here and there. That being said, we don't know how powerful its going to be. It was rumoured to be 1.2TF for the GPU but we don't know if it has changed since the information was leaked.

All we can do is sit and wait until the bombs go off in May.. lol.
