the sad thing though, is if they dont buy rayman, and the sales are low, they would pretty much be justifying ubisofts delay of the game. i really understand how fans can be pist at ubisoft, but they are essentially the biggest 3rd party publisher that is backing up the WiiU, they should suck it up and buy their games if they like them so they can keep giving the WiiU more good games.

there is something definitely weird with EA/nintendo, but some people are just taking it way out of proportion IMO. wherever money is to be made EA has been there, so it wont just stop because of a stupid fued or failed bussines proposal, those happen all the time. the WiiU doesnt seem that interesting or that profitable (or at all profitable) for 3rd party games like battlefield, and thats the main reason its not releasing

Oh I'm going to get it all right. When it's $20.

The 1 good thing to come out of all this hate is that I know it's going to not meet expectations.

(Yeah I'm part of the problem.)

yes you are part of the problem, so pay full price the game deserves it. The demo although three levels was epic.

No way I can get it this year. Too over budget already on my meager part-time student wage.

At least I know I can get the game for cheaper now that all this Ubisoft stuff surely pissed off a lot of WiiU owners. Better than boycotting it.

OMG another generic FPS isn't coming to Wii U, whatever will it do?? Guess its more Call of Duty for Wii U owners, Activision is happy today.

Battlefield and "generic" never belong in the same sentence. Still, it's comments like these that keep everyone else pointing and laughing at a chunk of Nintendo's fanbase.

If you like Battlefield that's fine, but don't pretend its not like a lot of other FPS out there. Its better than Call of Duty for sure, but its still just another "aim down the sights" modern military shooter, with a pretty bland story, in an oversaturated FPS game market. its not a huge lose to not have in on the Wii U.

I'll admit we share a certain myopia regarding shooty gun kill games, thinking that they're all much the same, from Mass Effect to Battlefield, Uncharted to CoD. They certainly all give off the same vibe to those who don't bother to play them...

I can understand that, but you have to admit that Battlefield, despite its similarities to other games in the genre, is one of EA's quality IPs. :P

Its a fair admission, because it's largely true. I'll admit to prejudging the Arkham games just by their general color scheme, before getting my hands on Arkham City for Wii U.

Much the same could be said of those who dismiss more colorful games, or JRPGs

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

That's your view, which is fine, but the word "generic" is used too loosely.

To, Battlefield does not feel like every other FPS out there. Most FPS games, despite their similarities, aren't "exactly" alike. Ex. Killzone doesn't feel like CoD, which doesn't feel like Battlefield, who doesn't feel like Halo. But then, I don't have a narrow way of looking at it.

Well yes, Halo and Killzone because they are sci-fi shooters with well written stories. You cannot really that make that aurgment with COD and BF, because they play very alike, except for the tank/plane missions in BF. I prefer BF to COD, for that reason because at least its a little different.

Why would you ever play a Battlefield game for the story (single player)? It's a franchise that is rooted in multiplayer and people buy it for the multiplayer. Such is the case with almost all military shooters.

Now go play a multiplayer game of COD and play a multiplayer game of BF, then come back and say they feel the same. You may have a certain preference, but the two are completely different experiences.

Saying BF and COD feel the same because you ADS would be like saying Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat feel the same because you punch dudes.

Most likely a wise choice from EA. Cost of porting could be bigger than the potential income for sales on Wii U. Not worth the risk.

Official response from Dice:

Eurogamer: Some Wii U owners are disappointed to see Battlefield 4 is not coming to the console. What, exactly, is the reason for that?

Patrick Bach: The biggest problem we have right now is we don't want to back down from what we see as our low spec machines. We right now don't have support for the Wii U in the Frostbite engine. The reason for that is it takes development time. What should we focus on to create the best possible Battlefield experience? We are now focused on PC and the current-gen platforms, and then there might be other platforms in the future that we can't talk about...

Eurogamer: One of them you can.

Patrick Bach: Yes, in theory, but we won't. But it's important to understand it's about focus and setting the bar. Where do you start? What's the minimum? What's the maximum? What's the scale in-between.

Tobias Dahl: We have long experience with scalability. We've always been making PC games. But we don't want to ship different games dependent on the platform. We need to set the limit somewhere, to have the lowest spec for this title.

Patrick Bach: We could probably make a Wii U game in theory. But to make the most out of the Wii U, that's a different game because of the different peripherals. We want to utilise all the power of each console.

Eurogamer: Are you saying it's not about the power of the Wii U itself, rather, it's about the controller?

Patrick Bach: It's everything. We could potentially make a Battlefield port for the Vita. But what would that game be? Is it something we could scale down from what you saw in the gameplay video, or would it have to be a complete redesign of the whole game?

It's about, where do you put your focus? And the Wii U is not a part of our focus right now.

...

Tobias Dahl: Going back to the Wii U, it's also a matter of scope. We can only work with so many platforms per person per day. It's a time-consuming thing to be a multi-platform title.

Traduction: We don't even want to try.

Crytek had Crysis 3 running on Wii U and the game wasn't released, so having the frostbine engine running on the Wii U wouldn't guarantee the release of Battlefield 4 on it anyway.

@Player2

Well, not really if they looked at the hardware and said that its not really viable to the port a engine over from scratch.. then thats that. And like they said, they COULD even port Battlefield to Vita, but they would have to scale back the game back so much that it would hardly recognisable to the same game that you saw in the trailer. Seems like they just want to push the technological barrier and didn't want to stretch themselves thin.
