Square-Enix are insane. All those games have done reasonably well... or do they not cover the ridiculous budget of re-developing FFXIV?

As long as publishers are run by "business men" who don't know a thing about running a company? I think the problem is that publishers don't say "Here's your budget" and then have the devs work in it. They play by ear, over shoot things, have huge crunch times cause there's just too many hands in the pot, etc. Game development's a mess and there's no end in site.

The special edition with the little Lara figure?

I wonder how much they expect Lightning returns to sell. Surely not more then XIII-2. It could half since its so late in the generation.

Yeah, I mean Tomb Raider is going to be easily the highest selling Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider and it had the highest debut for a tomb raider, yet it fell below expectations (wtf), and Hitman is the 2nd highest selling hitman which came out like 10 years ago. Sleeping Dogs I see as an issue and they probably hoped it would turn into GTA or Red Dead, but that was a risk/reward gamble that didn't reward them with money.
If that isn't enough to not lose 100+ million dollars the management has severe issues which is why wada's getting canned. But I don't think all the blame should go on only Wada, he has to listen to his marketing and sales people, examine cost/benefit etc.
Something seems a bit weird here, that they haven't highlighted the losses of FFXIV or DQX. Though again here last quarter they said DQX was a disapointment yet that sold had like 600,000 in japan only. WTF were they expecting.
I say this, as I've still loved SE games this gen both eastern and western, but the expectations are assinine.
TR sold 3.4m NOT INCLUDING DOWNLOADS and still failed to hit targets. wtf SE you fucking suck.
3.6m + 3.4m + 1.6m
8.6 million +downloads = roughly 250m in revenue if we expect 30$ of actual revenue per game. How could 3 games not balance out at 250m dollars...

LR probably won't even sell close to 3 million. The development costs are low, but it's hardly a game changer; especially since it will become a bargain bin game early just like FFXIII-2.

Thats why people here demanding them to stop development on western style games and focus on JRPGs are strange. Their JRPGs are a part of the reason Square is falling apart |
. Those Japanese games are what's bringing in money. FFXlll series has many praying it ends but its making them money, DQ remakes is making a ton, KH 3DS? yep. This is not first time the sleeping dogs has been cited as not making any money for them. Hitman was also said to under performing and apparently(did it sell 3 mill or is it estimates?) TR is not making the cut either. It has to do with their western style game having budgets waaaay to huge to actually to make any profit. This is a problem in the western side of development in general. Recently some game( I forgot what it is but look up if needed) had to sell about 6mill copies to make a profit. Who the hell that's not Rockstar or Activision sets budgets like that!!??.
They expected 3.4 million and not reach this target...
Anyway.... it is all they expected to ship by region (all games).

18.8 million... they will show if reach the expectations.
