Forums - Gaming - In Story Campaign, What is Considered Short/Regular/Long In Gaming?(Hours)

So yea guys, one thing that i want more than anything else is to play the game for a long time. Not including Multiplayer but just the Main campaign, How many hours is considered short? Whats normal? Whats Long?

Anyway Just Discuss what you think it is?

Heres Mine

Short● Under 8 Hours to me is way to short especially if it falls under 5 hours!
Regular■ 8-20 Hours/ I feel like a game should be 15-18 hours Minimun, but thats just me
Long ★ 20 Hours+ Love games especially single player games that have alot, wish every game was like 50 hours! MH3U i know people play hundreds of hours! Thats wat im talking about

Really depends on the genre. I'd consider 12h long for a FPS but would throw an RPG with the same playtime into a trashcan.

It depends, mostly on what kind of game it is. But the general consensus would be:

Short: -5 hours.

Regular: -8 hours.

Normal: 9 - 15 hours.

Long: +15 hours.

However, RPGs with 9 - 15 hours don't tend to be good...and a shooter with +15 hours of gameplay gotta be awesome, if done right. Look at Metro 2033.

Really hard to say

Factors
1. Price (I spend $10 I can accept a solid 2-3 game, at $60 I expect a lot more)
2. Genre (role playing game I want good 30 hours, action games I'll settle for 10)
3. Quality (If a game's level design is brilliant enough I will gladly give up time for that quality over meh filler)

I think I evaluate each game on that, but ultimately if I enjoy the experience I do not get too caught up in the minutes. I love Journey, I love Ni No Kuni and gulf in hours is massive.

Too short: Less than 10 hours

Short: 10-15 hours

Regular: 20-30 hours

Long: 60+ hours

I need at least 50+ hrs in an RPG for me to consider it long. 30+ if it's an adventure game.

A short game for me would be something like the Metroid games. Takes about 15? hrs of so for the 3D ones and a lot shorter for the 2D ones. Most platformers are short for me.

Regular is anywhere from 20-40. Okami, Kid Icarus (Singleplayer). A lot of the 3D Mario games and the spinoff ones.

Depends on the genre as others have said. However, putting everything in and finding the average:

Short- Below 10 hours

Average- 15-20 hours

Long- Over 35 hours

Long (JRPG)- Over 50 hours

I tend to do a "Pound Per Hour" thing to determine if I've got my money's worth from a game. So if a game costs £40 and I play it for 40 hours I feel as though it was worth it.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Under 10 hours is too short for any game. Unless it's low price.
Over 30 hours is long.
Over 50 hours is a great RPG.
Over 80 hours is god tier that few games reach.

bran's got it.  No way to just generalize here

I like FPS to be 10-12 hours, linear action games (Uncharted, GoW) about the same length, open world adventure (R&C, AC, Infamous) to be about 25 hours to do everything, and an open world RPG like Skyrim to be unlimited but with 100 hours for main and significant side quests.

Since time is money, and money is a measure of value, as is quality, and quality is subjective, I'll use a really nonsensical list determining quality, genre, and playtime all at once..

Under 10 Hours: Boo! Get off the stage!
Over 10 Hours: Good Shooter, Bad Anything Else
Over 20 Hours: Really Good Shooter, Good Action/Adventure
Over 50 Hours: Good RPG or Awesome Action/Adventure
Over 100 Hours: Really Good RPG (Xenoblade)
Over 1,000 Hours: Minecraft
