Worst GOW ever in the franchise, shm -_-

mmm...no.  It is actually the best.       Most reviewers of this game are just people who does not how to play a game properly.  "It is too hard", and most people did it in their first try;  "there is a puzzle I am stuck" Most people did it without any help.   "The multiplayer is tacked on" =  "I suck at the multiplayer".    It is like if they gave the game to gamers  that play mobile games the most in order to review, OH WAIT! they did it   >_>  (looks at gamespot review)

God of War: Ascension is an amazing game, review scores have nothing to do with this drop in sales since GoW3. in the real word the vast majority of gamers don't look at review scores, if they play a game they like they buy more games in that franchise. The only reason there's a drop is because Sony didn't make an effort to advertise the game in the UK, no billboards, only seen the TV advert ONCE, no advertisement on buses or the underground... nothing.

And it launched on Firday 15th in the UK so it didn't have double the time like that ill-informed writer claimed.

sucks that GoW Ascension performed like that but im actually happy for tomb raider to have done so good in its second week

Have you played it? Most agree this game has the best combat in the series. I hardly qualify that as the 'worst' in the franchise.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

@Nsanity: Eurogamer updated the article and corrected the release date error for God of War: Ascension, correct the OP.

Also don't see how people are so happy for Tomb Raider, it sold more in the UK in 7 full days than God of War: Ascension did in 3 full days. If it were a full week God of War: Ascension would have easily made it to top spot. GoW:A is still going to be huge so I'm not worried, almost 1m week 1 and 4m+ lifetime easily.

Not surprising. Most gamer's budget for march will go to Tomb Raider or Bioshock: Infinite . But that doesn't mean that GoW:A sales will be bad. I think many gamers will buy GoW:A some time later this when it's cheaper.

Arent you missing something here...?

TR sold more in 7 days in its second week.... thats the point.  Meaning in its first week it would have obliterated GOW.  TR sold 104k in the UK on the 360 alone and the 360 version is still above GOW in its second week.  No telling how much TR will have dropped week 1 to 2 but it will have been significant and probably over 60% meaning TR sold about 40k second week..  So GOW has opened with a pretty disappointing number.

I expect Gears to follow suit.  Hope I am wrong.

I gotta agree with you, neither game has much hype and has got fairly average review

These sales are not very impressive at all

I thoroughly enjoyed it but the franchise does have high standards.  I liked it much more than CoO at least.  Probably more than GoS and 1 to be honest (1 just has clunky controls when you go back to play it like having to go so slow on the walls)

Get Your Portable ID!Lord of Ratchet and Clank

Duke of Playstation Plus

Warden of Platformers

Good to see TR holding on...hopefully it continues to get good sales throughout the year, and beyond of course.

Sick and tired of seeing the same games rehashed over and over...although if TR does continue to do great I'm guessing the same will happen with that franchise :(

Tomb Raider wins war for No1

18/Mar/2013

Square Enix take a second week at the top with ‘Tomb Raider’ (-72%) holding off a host of new debutants to remain at No1.

It means Sony have to settle for second spot with demigod Kratos returning in ‘God of War Ascension’ at No2. Ascension becomes the 6th title in the series but fails to emulate the success of God of War III which took the No1 spot in Week 11 2010 with more than double the sales. It does however become the second biggest Week 1 in the series surpassing the debut week of God of War II which took the No1 back in Week 17 2007.

Activision Blizzard and developer Blizzard Entertainment round off the No3 spot with ‘StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm’. The PC title shares something in common with current chart topper ‘Tomb Raider’ being another ‘Event’ title with a Tuesday launch. There’s also a debut at No4 as City Interactive return with ‘Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2’. In its first week it doesn’t break the Top 3 however it does top its predecessor which has never climbed higher than No8 in our All Formats chart.

Three new titles in our top 4 means last week’s No2 ‘SimCity’ (-50%) drops to No5 ahead of ‘FIFA 13’ (-14%) at No6. Ubisoft’s ‘Far Cry 3’ (-3%) climbs a spot to No7 above EA’s ‘Crysis 3’ (-42%) which slips to No8. ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ (-14%) drops to No9 while ‘The Sims 3: University Life’ (-57%) which made its debut at No4 last week slides to No10.
