Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's down, but not out.

Seriously, I'm the only one who think this, when reading the thread title?:

Let's see...I think the majority of people think that Nintendo is done for given the circumstances that they've been going through lately. They haven't built hype for the WiiU, they're lacking games overall (and Ubisoft keep screwing 'em), and Sony has stolen the thunder right now. Now people's waiting for Microsoft to move, and no one is listening to Nintendo right now.

Nintendo is not down, and not out right now. But they need solutions. I don't think Nintendo as a company is in peril, because 3DS has been profitable and it will keep sellin'. But the WiiU lacks support, and we're seeing a "Gamecube situation" all over againg. They can turn the tables, but they need to work this up. I don't see Nintendo doing this exactly. I remember reading somewhere that Miyamoto was planning to create a new Mario brother in order to gain audience, but that's not exactly what the WiiU need. WiiU needs creativity, needs games. And I don't know if a price-cut would help (It wouldn't be healthy for Nintendo though). They need to pull a Playstation 3 here; that's it, they started this new gen wrong, but they can still save the day. WiiU needs advertising too (Not that horrible marketing, for Christ's sake!), and well, I'm no expert in these matters, but everything I've said here is what I firmly believe.

The main problem, as some user stated previously, is that WiiU lacks that "next-gen feel". It lacks any revolutionary idea that could captivate gamers. Think back at the beginning of this gen. Microsoft managed to make a name because the 360 had that next-gen feel. Wii made its name thanks to the revolutionary appeal it created. WiiU lacks these two things.

I defenitely agree with your last point. With the ps4 and nextbox coming up, I don't see it competeing in the next gen tech department or online eithier. It does have those popular exclusives that will come out eventaully though.

I've been reading a lot of comments lately concerning who will come out on top once the 8th gen is over with, and there seems to be a general sense that most people think that Ninetndo is done for.

Why do you think this? The console's sales are drastically low right now, but this is Nintendo. A pokemon game? Mario Kart? Super Smash Bros!? When these titles and others like them begin to launch, does anyone believe the sales will remain at the level that they are at? For those of you counting out Nintendo from 1st, or even 2nd place for next gen, maybe you should step back, take a breath, and relax. Who would've thought that the Playstation wouldve destroyed the N64 like it did, or that the PS3 would recover from its situation in 06-08.

The generation is barely started, so before you count Nintendo out, remember that the PS4 and 720 are not even launched yet. Anything can happen. Have an open mind.

^_^ Don't be so garsh dang negative :P Especially when we have 6+ years left to this race!!!

(I realize telling the Forums not to be negative is like telling a toddler that they can't have a toy, but it feels like this needs to be said... At least for the rational among us!)

Not even down man, the 3DS is kicking ass even with the end of the handhelds era.

My thing is; The Wii U does not feel like a next gen console. It really, really does not. What kind of next gen consoles gets a bunch of enhanced ports from established franchise? Obviously, there were exceptions like ZombiU. They should have held off until they had mario galaxy 3 or the next big zelda game.

How about the Xbox 360?

As far as the Wii U goes, I think people are fooling themselves. The system isn't "dead" right now, but it will be soon. There's nothing between now and Autumn that has even a chance of seriously affecting sales.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

Nope - because it's really, really easy.
10 million units on a console that has sold 99 million +. Proportionally, that's not very good when we consider the amount of units sold on the other consoles which have almost 30 millions less sales than the wii.

Lol this post is full of flaws.

And? Going to enlighten the rest of us as to what these flaws are? Or just going to be condescending?
If you look at the amount of game sales on the Wii compared to consoles sold, there are not many system movers, and one of the most successful, 2d mario, has failed to pick up momentum.

It's pretty funny that you're talking about negative posts and then Mazty comes in here a posts negatively. (Plus the fact that other people are replying to him just as badly.)

Speak of the devil, I guess.

OT: I agree with Pokoko. We can't count anyone out yet. It's only been a few months for the Wii U and PS4/720 are pretty much non-existant. (Minus that Conference for the PS4.)

I didn't post negatively, I cleared up some mistakes the OP made...Something wrong with that?

Don't be patronising - if you have a problem with what I say address it directly or not at all. I'm not going to apologise for having had the necessary level of education to spot flaws in people's arguments and pointing them out. As I said, a lot of what the OP said doesn't add up. Nothing more, nothing less.

I've already addressed my problem with your posts directly. I think you are difficult to discuss with. That is all. I told you that in the last thread.

And yes you're negative. Maybe not all the time, but I've seen many posts from you that are strikingly negative. Mostly towards Nintendo. (I'm not going to reply to you if you quote me again. I don't want to de-rail this thread.)

You have to realize that selling 10 million units, means that the game has to pretty big. I do agree with you, about Zelda being ridiculously easy, but that doesn't determine if a game is core or not. A lot of people like yourself and many others also like to think that Mario Kart is a casual game. Well it isn't, although it is easy to learn it is very hard to master and beat completely and you can play it for hours, therfore it is not casual, but instead core. Same goes for Zelda.

I see a lot of negativity about current Wii U sales but that's just a fact that they aren't great. Most people aren't writing it off though, they tend to all be in agreement Nintendo need to move on price and get some games out. The only ones spouting about it being dead tend to be those being vindictive that the Vita got similar treatment (the 2 aren't remotely similar positions though imo).

Hoping for a big E3 from Nintendo this year.

WiiU is no Wii (despite the name). I agree with the sentiment that Nintendo is basically back to the pre-Wii days (with a bit of Wii residue I'm sure) but now with an out-of-date system.

However Nintendo is far from out, they do own some of the biggest IPs around - Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Pokemon, Smash Bros, Donkey Kong, and numerous second stringers - Metroid, Starfox, Kirby, etc.

When the games start to come out, WiiU sales will pick-up. I don't think anyone disputes this. But there's no reason to think WiiU will achieve better than average console sales for Nintendo. It'll likely sell somewhere between N64 and GC because it'll be selling mainly on the strentgh on Nintendo's own properties and that's the level that Nintendo's properties generally sell consoles.
