A "gaming PC" is normally £800+. No shit that such a PC will blow away a ~$450 console. Need he state the Earth is round whilst he is at it?

Though it makes me wonder what involvement, if any, they have had with the 720 and if the hardware they have put in it is piss poor in comparison.

the NeXtBox is using very similar setup as PS4. See my sig.

But that is all rumours. One week it is using some Intel beast, the next it is AMD. There have been no legit reports on it yet.

These rumors are very reliable and they come from the same source that leaked the PS4 specs which were 99% accurate.

Well in that case they are bitching that they have lost out to their rival - AMD/ATI

My brother just upgraded his nice "open" platform PC so it can play 2013 PC games with decent (but not top notch) performance. It cost him more to do this upgrade than the cost of buying a 500GB PS3.

So I think this guy's comment is barely technically correct. It's more like a technicality. Sure your can upgrade your PC annually, but the reality is only a small minority of people swap out parts of their PC on a regular basis to stay up with current tech. Most people will treat their PC as a closed platform, and when they want / need a more powerful unit their current PC will be 4-5 years old so they will buy a new PC.

In practice PCs are closed platforms despite the fact that in principle they are open. People taking advantage of the openness of PCs are the exception to the rule.

This also means game developers have to develop for PCs that are about 3-4 years behind current tech. Because so many PCs out in the wild being used for gaming are 3-4 years behind current tech that developing with current tech in mind would stupidly limit the sales potential of games.

The theoretical advantage of PC over console is quite a bit larger than reality on the ground.

Also most developers seem to be pretty happy with the specs, seeing that there's a lot of creative potential that can be unleashed on PS4 and presumably a similarly spec'd Nextbox.

To call the PS4 a low-mid ranged PC is crazy.

In realistic gaming performance i would rather classify it as a mid-high PC. Just based on the theoretical power of the hardware, as well as the design of the device to cater for gaming.

People don't seem to understand that when you talk about low end PC's, you talking about the lowest performing parts. Parts that are not really specifically geared towards gaming. Current APU solutions from AMD and intel HD graphics for example is what i would say is "low - end" in terms of gaming obviously. Then i would be looking at discrete gpus such as the GTX550ti as a low-mid randged gpu, a solid card that can play most games at decent settings (not the latest titles tho). I would then say a 560ti moves to the mid range segment. Which is a serious jump up from a 550ti or similar bracket. And then 7850, 7870, GTX660, 660ti as mid - high cards.

Anything above that currently is a high end card. Theres just no other way to classify these cards based on real world gaming performance, price and theoretical power.

So im seriously struggling to make the jump here? And why are so many tech minded people just going along with this? How on earth does a 7850, 7870, 7970M hybrid gpu fall into the low end category at all???? Taking into account what we know of real world gaming performance benchmarks.

Intel Core i7 3770K [3.5GHz]|MSI Big Bang Z77 Mpower|Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1866 2 x 4GB|MSI GeForce GTX 560 ti Twin Frozr 2|OCZ Vertex 4 128GB|Corsair HX750|Cooler Master CM 690II Advanced|

I know all three consoles will do well, but did he lie? seems like he was right. Well except for calling it low end tht sounded wrong.

@binary solo

You said some truth hre.

The trend today is to PC be a closed plataform.. the Steam Survey showed that... the gamers not change more their PC parts because they buy notebooks with fixed hardware for games.

I have a lot of friends migrating to notebooks as game plataform.

Steam Box will be interesting, it should be more powerful than the 720 or PS4 and have cheaper games.

Sony has Uncharted and Gran Turismo and MS has Halo and Gears but valve is no push over with Half-Life, Portal, etc.

Yeah, exactly.

The first Steambox is already up for pre-order. It'll cost you $999. NO, I'm not joking.

Expected hyperbole from a company spokesperson representing the views of a company that stands to gain absolutely nothing from the potential success of the PS4.

They were underbid by AMD, pure and simple, for both the PS4 and Xbox 3 contracts. And as a result, only AMD stands to gain from whatever success may come to bear from the next gen of consoles.

So of course Nvidia would like people to regularly buy their video cards for PCs instead and attempt to write off the significance of the next gen of consoles.
