Forums - Sony Discussion - Nvidia bitterness continues, compares PS4 specs to a 'low-end CPU'

Please.. people saying that Nvidia is butthurt... they just didn't want to develop for those consoles cause they have Project Shield which clearly is gonna crush all those AMD machines...

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Yay more PR stunt to make people dumber! woohoo! Another "NO SHIT SHERLOCK!"

Aren't graphics card improvements going to be less important now and going forward? With Windows Vista, we went from DX 10 to 11, but with Windows 8 you only get DirectX 11.1. And twelve will not be around till Windows 9 2015 (or perhaps on the new Xbox too?) The upgrades between operating systems doesn't seem like it will matter as much going forward as it has in the past two decades.

So doesn't that mean the difference between a PC and a console will be less significant than it has been?

They should be able to push out more frames and better AA with newer cards, but it seems like the bulk of the innovation is locked in with the software/operating system.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

What could they possibly gain from this?... hence the name nVIDIA which means "envy" in latin.

Superchunk is right about gpu most likely being mobile. its a lot closer to 7970m than 7850 according to specs released so far. its probably based on 8970m or some next gen monile gpu.

Design of the PS4 gpu probably started 3-5 years ago. There was no gcn and no 8xxxx around at that time. The coolest (for a price) thing was a 7850-type gpu structure and that was the starting point for the Sony engineers. The question for Sony was essentially do we wait for AMD/NVidia to build a generic off-the-shelf gpu that would fit our bill, or do we change something existing to fit the bill of what we want. Apparently they went the second road, and if you remember, there was a recent comment by amd to the extent that "the PS4 gpu has many of the intrinsics of our new emnedded gpu line (gcn2)". So it seems  amd and Sony engineers somewhat converged in their ideas during the past years...

nVidia has the right to be jealous because lose millions of dollars in next-generation.

AMD? Well... AMD Expects Game Consoles to Account for Nearly 20% of Revenue This Year

PS4 is powerful enough and hater will eat crow...

Oh don't bring that stupid saying from Neogaf to vgchartz!

Low end? No. More like mid-range. Same goes for GPU.
Besides Sony and probably Microsfot are going for a shorter life cycle this gen so keeping launch prices low while also delivering a huge leap in tech is a win for everyone.

What? That was used in vgchartz since 2006 but of course... vgchartz born in gaf so... I'm confuse now.

The guy is right....but of course dodges the real issue - price.
A "gaming PC" is normally £800+. No shit that such a PC will blow away a ~$450 console. Need he state the Earth is round whilst he is at it?

Though it makes me wonder what involvement, if any, they have had with the 720 and if the hardware they have put in it is piss poor in comparison.
