I'd say Microsoft was Sony's 'closest' competitor in  terms of business model, but both Sony and Microsoft want to dig into that blue ocean of gamers that bought Nintendo consoles via things like Kinect/Move/Wonderbook and Nintendo will be the main competitor for that. Also blue ocean aside Nintendo also has a lot of core gamers that Sony and Microsoft would want to sway to their console.

I guess the way I see it is that there are X amount of people willing to buy a home console (the market) and Nintendo clearly dominated both in sales and finacially last gen. I just see it as Microsoft and Sony's 'biggest' competitor, though not necessarily their 'closest' if you know what I mean.

I'd say PS4 has the highest chance of winning next gen. The wii u is doing terrible and and don't forget xbox is pretty much 3rd already considering it had a year head start, lower price while still getting outsold by the PS3 for years now and every week. Plus the PS3 could have already passed the 360 if the reports and under tracking are true. So we do have a reason to be confident.

Well I don't have the best sentiments towards MS in the gaming business and I've made that clear in the past, but it has nothing to do with overconfidence.  My biggest fear is MS gaining market dominance.  Nintendo I admire and always end up getting their systems eventually (except GC but I had a friend with whom I played the heck out of Melee and Wind Waker) and Sony I just seem to love every first party game they put out and the non-prop. memory, free online, and single player focus that they have over MS.  Also I think a lot of the reason Sony fans are confident is that they did literally EVERYTHING wrong this gen as far as what it takes to make a console successful (late and $600 is a deadly combo and I'm not sure how they got themselves out of it) and yet they'll still end up around 100m most likely so how could they not beat MS when they release at roughly the same time, have similar architectures, most likely have similar online features (PS4 may actually gain an advantage here as MS can't change their plans now if they didn't have those social and streaming features in it already, though they can add through patches maybe), and are most likely far closer in price (at most a $100 difference as opposed to the $200 one we had before).  Also people are waaaaaaay too quick to bury WiiU when it's still got the system sellers to come and has only been out just over 4 months.   I think (based on almost nothing because of the current unknowns and obvious earliness) that market share will be PS4-40%, WiiU-33%, and Nextbox-27%

As usual, same thing happened with the PS3 and Vita (look how those turned out). And once again Microsoft and

Nintendo are going to place their boot right back up Sony's ass with Samsung and Apple to support with an orbital

strike lol. But lets be fair Sony has been bleeding money for 6 consecutive years and recently had to sell

their home just to survive it's kind of sad but let the have their fun before reality strikes. Because like Sony said

they are going to buy Samsung and Apple, just like the homeless man by my job swears he's going to be king of

Egypt.

Not sure, to answer the OP, but the lack of knowledge on technology is astounding. Praising GDDR5 like it's the next messiah is definitely overboard. It's not as amazing as Sony fans are expecting it to be. The whole "it's stronger than a gaming PC" is definitely out of line.

I really wish that MS would just announce the next Xbox already. The amount of threads being created lately from MS fans whining and whining...Sony is over conident this and negativity that. This site has more sony fans then others....seriously it's getting pretty pathetic. The same thing happened in 06 with PS3 fans acting the same way.

I just want MS to announce the damn thing so Xbox fans can you know make decent threads again instead of whining all day long.
