Forums - Sony - Vita nr1 in Japan this week, the times they are a-changing

Are things turning around for the Vita? Can Vita sustain the great sales? Is it saved?

Around the Network

vita will never top the 3ds, let's just hope it finds a sweet spot, kinda like the PSP

Does it have Monster Hunter yet?

No, because Luigi's Mansion is coming out in less than two weeks and 3DS will dominate. Vita will fall to 20k per week pretty quickly I think, now that Soul Sacrifice has come out. A temporary high.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

It can be turned around, and the sales will likely stay around 20k.

But is it saved? No.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

We won't know if it is saved until we see its sales during a week when no big games are released.

Add me! :)

I love my Vita and this weeks sales are awesome in Japan, but let's not shoot to high...

60k+ 2 weeks is not "omg everything is perfect now". It is a good start though :) hoping it will provide some competition and get good games.
Don't own one and for now, don't want one, but that is subject to change.. just give me a FF tactics or something and i'll be all over that :D (or on 3ds, don't care.. just give me a FF tactics :-/ )

The difference is, right now, that the 3DS doesn't just have more games, it has games in more genres. It has the cute sims that appeal to females, the collecting games that appeal to children, and the big franchises that appeal to older demographics. That shows the focus of Nintendo in the handheld space and the focus of Sony in the home console space. In that regard, it's understandable and expected that Sony's handhelds should have a lower market share.

There is a definite niche for the Vita, though, and it's the same one the PSP still holds as the otaku system of choice. Personally, I think the Vita will be fine, especially now that developers are seeing that it can have strong software sales even with a small installed base. It only makes sense to dive into a market that is wide open. If developers and publishers had doubts, I think those doubts are being exorcised.

If it can settle ~20k or higher weekly that would be a great change.
