These are all my kids except one Wii but...

N64 - Worked perfectly until given away
GC - Worked perfectly until sold
PS2 - Disc read errors
Wii 1 (launch) - Wiimote died - replaced, disc read errors - fixed twice, complete system failure - replaced
Wii 2 (08) - Still working
Wii 3 (08) - Still working
GBC - No issues
DS 1 - Worked until sold
DS 2 - Still working
360 1 - Still working
360 2 - Still working

I can't believe I forgot that my first Wii died on me, it froze up while playing Epic Mickey and after that it wouldn't boot up anymore!

PS one: overheated

my psp is just dead

I would like to know how many PS2s sold to date are phats.

I mean its somewhat unfair to say  PS2 is sales king when lets say 50 million died because of a bad laser and then 40* million  former phat owners were "forced" to buy a slim because they had so many games they didnt want to throw into the trash can.

Thank god I got my PS2slim for free with a double phone contract   :)

*(yep 40 not 50 million on purpose because 20% might have said FU Sony without buying a new console)

Well Sony sold 100 million PS2's by November 2005, and the PS2 Slim came out in October 2004. So it's safe to say that at least half of the PS2's sold were phat.

Also PS2 might not be sales King since PS2 was disconintued, and DS is still selling. VGC stopped tracking PS2 at what 154 million? I have another thread where I analyse console sales and I believe I pegged PS2 final sales at 156.72 million. I did that by following the trend PS2 was setting YoY, and adding 60% of it's prior year sales to its current sales for the year VGC didn't track it. I also layered those results with PS2 shipment figures. Either way PS2 finished at about 157 million, and the DS is at 154.34 million, and it sold 3.4 million last year. Currrently it's tracking 40% as well in 2013 as it did in 2012, so if it keeps this up it will sell 1.4 million units which would put it at 155.65 million units or so. PS2 will only be 1 million higher, DS could trickle past PS2 numbers.

Also regardless, DS is more reliable then PS2, so if your critisizing PS2 being the hardware king, but questioning how many were replacement copies, I bet there are already more unique DS owners then PS2.

That of course would be very hard to figure out, as I know a lot of people that bought multiple PS2s and DS's. PS2 in every room and all the versions of the DS :O.

Honestly, the only thing that was closest to breaking was my GBA SP. It went through the wash and still ended up working afterwards. Never had a system break on me yet.

My NES finally died after about 25 years. However it was very touchy for the last 15 or so years.

I've never had a console break on me except that.

Owned gameboy color and advanced(sold them both), psp, psone, ps2 fat, ps3 fat and ps3 slim.

The only one that died was my first ps3 after like 3 or 4 years, YLOD

Considering that DS, DSLite, DSi, and DSXL are all coutned in the same figure, I'd wager you're wrong on this one. Nearly everyone I know who had a DS has bought at least one of the revisions (some all 4!).

Of course, there's no way to scientifically measure this, but both had quite a bit to flush the numbers.

You're right!

I didn't even consider that. I only have 1 DS, but I have 2 different original Gameboy models and 2 GBA's (The SP was just too awesome).

It would be impossible to determine this, even if the DS were more reliable, I think more people own multiple DS's then PS2's.

So......I'm just going to hope that DS tops PS2 in overall hardware sales
