Forums - Nintendo - Yen Plummets, Nintendo Soars!

The Yen zoomed past 96 per US dollar this weekend.  At the same time, Nintendo shares have seen very significant gains over the last week.  This is great for shareholders, of course, but could also have a major impact on the industry in the coming months.  The 95yen dollar means an extra 18% revenue for Japanese product in America. This effectively means that a WiiU deluxe sold for $350 is now selling for $415 from Nintendo's perspective when we look at their initial projections using an 80yen dollar.  Since the breakeven point for WiiU was between 1 and 2 games, it's fairly safe to say $65 would mean the WiiU is selling at a profit outside of Japan.  This is without even looking at game revenue. So is Nintendo going to drop the price? Bank the money? I would suggest a fall price dop becomes more likely with every drop in the yen.  A 100yen dollar would make the WiiU able to be both cheaper and profitable, if not already. If 3DS sales are strong this year, Nintendo could be printing money.

Nintendo might actually be in a slightly pressured situation.

They're counting on the 3DS to hit it big in the west soon.

That means Pokemon. Pokemon, Pokemon, Pokemon.

Pokemon CANNOT fail. They need to spam every kids channel everywhere for this game.

Pokemon won't fail... Has that ever happened?...

I wish the Euro would plummet as well, really hurting here... :-/

What I mean by fail is being unable to lure kids from their tablets and smartphones.

They need the epic drawing power like the 1st gen did.

No Pokemon game will ever have the draw or sale of Red/Blue/Yellow again. Hell, I doubt they'll match Gold/Silver again anytime soon.

It really doesn't have to, though. I doubt anyone at Game Freak or Nintendo will jump out a window if X/Y "only" sell 10-12 million or something.

Nintendo just needs to sell as many 3DS's and Wii U's as possible this year. They should be making a good profit of both, now is the time to move them. Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and the declining relevence of DS in the west should help this be a banner year for 3DS. Wii U needs compelling software ASAP. They should be hoping for at least 10 million sold this year.

Bougbt some more nintendo stock this morning. Hoping to make some more by the end of the week.

I doubt the WiiU's been that profitable with such low sales lately. And that trend will continue for a while, at this rate--I don't expect Lego City, Pikmin, or Bayonetta to have a huge, lasting impact on hardware sales. The heavy hitters may well make up the difference come Christmas time, though.

i think japanese stocks are a good choice as along as the yen is going down, they will go up(and the yen should go down as the japanese central bank is inlating the yen)

but you should take care of the next QE in the states,as this will devalue the dollar and the yen will go up(in a relative way)
