Forums - Gaming - Has there been a shift in power since the Wii U launch and PS4 announcement on this site? - No links available, sorry.

Its always been about 40% PlayStation, 40% Nintendo, 15% Xbox and 5% everything else. Give or take 5% from any of the big 3 on certain occasions like high/low sales or HW/SW announcements. Also anyone who uses polls as "proof" of anything is ignoring a few important facts -

Firtly, lurkers and non-members vote. This automatically sways any poll regarding the forum userbases.

Secondly, people vote multiple times. Again this sways totals.

Thirdly, according to several polls on here... Im an Xbox fan and a Nintendo fan, more than Im a PlayStation fan. Well, not really, its just an example of how people can/do lie on polls to fit an agenda.

To answer the question in the OP.

Right now, the forums are more 45% PlayStation, 35% Nintendo due to the reasons given already. Lots of positive PS news, with PS3 selling well. Wii U is tanking below Vita numbers and theres a lot of gloating over relatively shit Vita numbers

For years Nintendo gamers ruled this site. How could they not? This site started around 2006. For most of Vgchartz life Nintendo has dominated everything. PSP and PS3 sat in the back of the classroom and watched Nintendo and even Microsoft keep them from shining.

But ever since the underdog Vita launched, and magnificent PS4 announcement things seems to have changed.

Before, a Sony gamer would not dare say anything to a Nintendo or Microsoft gamer. Seece would freeze them in their place or Rol would tell them what's up.

Now Sony fans here are walking all over other groups on this site. Everything is so hostile. Things have changed. Am I wrong?

Awareness this site is dominated by Sony fans has likely resulted in a lot of them coming out, at least can be seen by polls.

But, regarding the "POWER" word, that deserves some He Man!

Wait what? Rol was a nintendo fan at some point? I've pretty much seen him always be critical of Nintendo 3DS and especially Wii U. Unless it was sarcastic or he changed his views.

Sony fans are more plentiful on these forums, because misery loves company. The reason that they are miserable is actually two fold. They have basically lost the argument for over half a decade now, and the company that they are backing has lost every single battle it has fought. They cannot leave satisfied until they get some kind of a victory.

Other fan bases have a number of victories under their belts. So they are well fed and vindicated. No longer having anything to prove. Seeing as their company already beat Sony, and beat Sony very soundly. So a lot of the manpower in the other two groups gathered up their trophies, and moved on to find some new form of amusement elsewhere. Lets be honest about something. Sony just went from one failure to the next all last generation. The last time most of these Sony fans got to actually feel really good about their brand was prior to the launch of the PS3.

Everything else has been a hold the line against the invaders scenario. Most of them probably expected to get another easy victory from Sony, and instead they found themselves besieged. While the Barbarians pillaged the country side. Another generation makes for a nice clean slate, and another chance for them to get the victory they desperately crave. However I think a lot of them also know that the situation is still desperate, and that Sony may has as little as one or two chances to pull off any kind of a victory, and those chances may come and go real quickly. So it is equal parts hyping themselves up for batter, and getting off one last hurray. Just in case they wont get another chance.

i don't think so.

2 PS fans are loader then a crowed of ninty fans, and MS fans happen to be very cunning.

MS and Sony fans are just loader.

@scottie: PS forums just have more to talk about. Nintendo still reigns supreme. all you have to do is make a thread about who has the better ip, or the most iconic ip, and ninty would do as they always do in those polls, and win.

Loader?

srry louder. i'm having allot of bad days over now the past 2-3 wks. not at liberty to talk about it.

the power shifted way back in 2009 when the 1st PS3 slim came out.

I dont really see the logic behind this. PlayStation fans have enjoyed success ever since the original PS3 Slim released. Look at the numbers pre-Slim to post-Slim. Look at how the PS3 "won" 2011 and 2012.

Support has been fantastic for the console from 3rd parties. Sony 1st party is getting stronger and stronger as each Year passes. PS3 as a platform has beaten its nearest competitors for the last 2-3 Years. PSP did the impossible and actually beat the DS in Japan while holding alright legs until Vita release. PS2 continues to be the best selling videogame platform. The only real "low" since 2009 is the Vita.

If anything, PlayStation has gone from being in a shitty hole pre-Slim, to standing high is 2013. Its not "failure after failure". Its clawing back what you lost. PlayStation, as of right now, is back to being number 1.

@Carl2291

Qualifying minor accomplishments as actual victories is fairly damning evidence that my assertion is correct. Reality remains unchanged. Sony hasn't been able to beat a competitor in the hardware space since the launch of the PS3, and that is what Sony fans genuinely want. They want to be able to say that Sony flat out beat somebody. None of the hardware that Sony has released has bested their rivals. Not a single one. They all lost to a competitors own comparable product. Including motion controlled peripherals that is four straight losses.

Continually lowering the bar isn't going to suddenly create a victory. It just makes the quest for success seem all the more shallow. Can you really take pride in leading the pack in a marathon between mile markers seven through nine if in the end you crawl across the finish line in dead last. Sure there are bragging rights for participating, and actually finishing the race, but those aren't the bragging rights Sony wants. They don't want a moral victory. They want a real prize. Something that is tangible.

To be honest about it I think Sony fans are finally going to get a victory this upcoming generation. Not against Microsoft, but most assuredly against Nintendo. I have said it before Nintendo looks to have made some seriously bad design choices with their console. It is hard to see Sony not taking second place next generation. At least for a few years. I don't want to go too far beyond that. Given how the company routinely fails to turn a profit.
