I used to work for Eb games back in the day, was in management and I discovered the people we hired that really had no interest in games were the better sales people because they weren't instilling their bias on the customer and didn't try to force them one way or the other. Even I had a problem when talking to customers not trying to get them to play games I liked instead of finding out what games THEY liked.

I learned more on beaing a good salesperson from the non-gamer employees.

Remember, it's easier to teach a good salesperson product knowledge than teach a gamer how to be a salesperson.

huh never thought of it that way but now that you point it out it makes sense. If you can't let go of you own preferences then you could never be a great  salesperson but I think if you can like I had to do then its just as good if not better. I had to swallow my PlayStation pride and see that not everyone will like PlayStation. Not only has it made me a better salesman but also a better gamer.

Thats why I left EB Games after Gamestop bought them out, because their approach to hiring was all to hire gamers on the cheap, strip away all incentives because gamers will do anything to work around games.

So salesmen have finally discovered what we have been predicting months before the release of the Wii U. The casuals have moved on to mobiles and tablets and are no longer interested in consoles. Better late than never I guess...

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Taking the word of one salesperson and using it for a broad statement for all salespeople seems a little ridiculous.

Also if the casuals are no longer interested in consoles, then expect a gaming crash bigger than the one from the 80's.

Nintendo are not aiming the WiiU at casuals, thats why the casuals arent buying it. If anything it seems to me that WiiU is aimed for the hardcore Nintendo crowd..which is a good thing content wise, but sales have been a little slow to take off. Mind you im sure Mario Kart, Lego,Yarn Yoshi and Wii fit U might start to tempt the casuals back. How many casuals are bored of Kinect? the right games will make them want to jump ship as thay dont have brand loyalty.

Now i'm sure someone has made a thread very similar to this at some point this is just my take on the subject.

I've been wondering for a while why the Wii U isn't selling, it's a great system with a lot of cool features that everyone would like but nobody seems to want to buy one. Some say it's because it's "not much more powerful than the HD wins"  but the casual market doesn't give a crap about power. Some say it's because it has no games and I would agree to that IF it didn't have Mario. Mario is (for a casual gamer) THE reason to buy a Nintendo console with of course some shovel ware. So what is the Problem? Is it marketing then? Yes, to a certain degree. It's probably the second biggest reason because most consumers don't know it exists.

So if it isn't power, games, and marketing then what is it?

The Wii!!!

Now I work in the Gaming department of my local Best Buy so my job is to get people to buy games systems regardless of my preferences. So when i'm showing people the Wii U the first words out of their mouths is "oh I didn't know about this, when did it come out?' or something to that effect. So after explaining what it is and reassuring that it in fact is NOT a regular Wii with at tablet controller I tell them all the features and games available. Honestly after I explain what it is everyone seems interested but they NEVER buy it. I've been left wondering WHY nobody pulls the trigger and gets it untill today.

Today I had a familly playing the Wii U demo and they seemed like they were having alot of fun with it so I approached them to answer any questions they had. So once I felt like they were interested buying it today I asked them " are you thinking about picking one up today?" Her response was no so I asked why. Then she said it.

"Why would I buy a Wii U when I have a Wii at home that no one plays?"

I tried to counter by saying "well the kids seem like they like the Wii U alot so maybe it will get used more." But she quickly responded that the same thing happened when they went and bought the wii.

In closing the reason the Wii U is failing is not because of power, games, or marketing... it because no one plays the Wii and that leads them to not see value in the Wii U.

Now i'm not saying i'm 100% right but from my experience this is the Wii U's biggest obstical.

great post. though you missed as the point as why nobody plays the wii, graphics are a generation behind 360/ps3, online gaming never took off with the wii and no third party support because the system has low specs compared to ps3/360. picture this, if you saw the wii version of COD next to the 360 version you don't think gamers will care? power plays a huge role in every generation.

Yeah don't take my word as a statement for every salesperson, I just was holding out hope that most casuals would at some point find value in a Wii U but so far it doesn't look like it will happen.

To a certain degree, the most powerful console has never "won" any generation.

Also I would like to see a chart and source for amount of time people spend playing a console, otherwise its just speculation.

this is really the worst argument there is, psx and ps2 were insanly powerful for there time, of course systems that came out a year later would have better specs, i sill remember MGS2 looking more impressive then halo to me, were talking about a generation behind, not asmall jump in power you think anybody would buy ps2 if the games looked like playstaion 1 games? compared to dreamcast.

I have to laugh, you hear 1 or 2 comments from individual people saying they dont play their Wii anymore, and everybody assumes that a majority of the 100 million people who own one dont either. Look at Wii software sales, it is still pulling in respectable numbers. Pehaps people dont want to buy a WiiU bacause they are still happy playing Wii. Mark my words, when nextbox and PS4 launch and the hardcore have bought their consoles, they are going to have a hard time to prise others away from 360s and PS3s.

ninjablade- You are correct power plays a huge part in every gen, the 3DS v Vita proves that the more powerful hardware always wins the battle..oh wait

2 totally different markets, nintendo has never lost the handheld market, they own it. the handheld market is also a dying market. its never been about graphics for the handheld market.
