I never got why some people see motion control as a "gimmick." It's a natural step in the evolution of controllers. Was the D pad a gimmick? Joystick? Rumble? Trigger Buttons? Not saying all games will/should use them, but still.. Anyway...

Its more to do with the practicality of the controller, along with the way it was implemented.
Outside of Sports and Party games, it really isnt any fun unless youre aiming your controller at the TV to shoot something. Its not practical for a wide variety of games. Sure there are rare instances where it is used well - Skyward Sword for example - but in the grand scheme of things there wasnt enough worthwhile games that required motion control. Take a look at the following definition for "Gimmick".
"An innovative or unusual mechanical contrivance; a gadget."
I think that suits the Wii Remote perfectly. I think it suits Kinect perfectly.
It wasnt used effectively. The motion control that launched with Wii lacked the accuracy to really put it to good use on the bigger games. The same problems are now there with Kinect too, it simply isnt accurate. Swishing your hand to the right isnt as practical or quick as pushing the button on your controller. The tech really isnt good enough yet to vastly improve the gameplay experience like D-Pad, Analog, Rumble, etc.
Do you think Nintendo of today see motion control as the future of videogame controls?

It's not a natural step but a divergent step. It hasn't rendered controllers obsolete, at least not yet.
On topic, Killzone 3 did a very nice job with Move but I never could get Resistance 3 working well. I intend to try RE5 with it eventually. I think that's all the motion control games I own, actually.

I bet to differ; the ability to aim a virtual weapon my aiming my wrist in real life is incredibly empowering and immersive, much more so than analogue.
It's more fun though. The satisfaction of smashing an enemy with Mario's spin or slicing one in Skyward Sword feel more viscerally rewarding than a button press.

Yeah, I dunno how that slipped my mind when in the exact same post I was talking about Skyward Sword
I think its time I went to bed...
