Forums - Nintendo - Will the Wii become the rpg console of the gen? (opinions)

I'm not sure, I would go with Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, White Knight Chronicles, the Last Remnant, Folklore, Fallout, Eternal Sonata (most are PS3 exclusives)

No, the really deep heavy hitters will not be on Wii imo. It's the Nintendo curse not to have a deep RPg series beyond Zelda (which is damn amazing on it's own).
No matter how many Wii's are sold, it will not be the hardcore RPG gamers choice.

best Wii RPG will be: Tales of Symphonia 2 !!!

Wii console: 0595 8808 5698 2709
Super Smash Bros Brawl: 1161 1357 5188

Mario Kart Wii: 1633 4506 4319

PES 2008: 1633 5820 0347

DragonBall Z BT 3: 3823 9760 9484

Sure, and Galaxy and Brawl won't pass 7 million neither

Do you realize that Nintendo has the biggest RPG in the world in Pokemon? And thats 100% exclusive.

I wouldn't bet on White Knight Story, personally. The developer (Level-5) hasn't really had a lot of success with console RPGs in terms of sold units. They tend to do better on handhelds, in fact.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

Hrmm, to start, you really screwed up your list. First of all, lets assume you are referencing JRPGs, which have very little in comon with WRPGs. If we are talking WRPGs, then no, absolutely not. The Wii won't have anywhere near the most. If we are talking JRPGs, then yes, it will, and it already does. Here is an actual list of JRPGs annoucned for the next gen systems right now:

Wii

Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon
King's Story
Oboro Muramasa Youtouden
Mysterious Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 3
Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk
Monster Hunter 3
Sword of Legendia
Dragon Quest Swords
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers
Opoona
Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon
Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Young King and the Promised Land
Baroque

PS3

Enchanted Arms
Mist of Chaos
Final Fantasy XIII
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
The Last Remnant
White Knight Story
Eternal Sonata
Battle Field Valkyrie: Gallian Chronicles
Disgaea 3

Xbox 360

Eternal Sonata
Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssey
Enchanted Arms
Phantasy Star Universe
Infinite Undiscovery
Blue Dragon 2

Some of the above are of course hybrid games. JRPGS mixed with SRPGs etc. It's also worth noting that although the Wii has more, the PS3 has mroe high budget games. This is sort of interesting, because high budget JRPGS (Final Fantasy) are going to be separated from low budget RPGs (Tales of) for the first time ever.

There are of course a few high budget Wii RPGs like Monster Hunter 3, and there will be more in the future, but what it's mostly geting are what we in the western world call niche RPGs. This isn't a bad thing. There are a lot more niche JRPGs than mainstream ones, and it's unsurprising that the Wii is dominating in this field.

Most JRPGs can't afford to take the risks that the PS3 and 360 represent. Making an RPG on an HD console is a very expensive gamble. Franchises like Tales rarely break a million, and stand no chance of making a profit on the PS3 or Xbox 360. Of course, there will still be some of these games because Microsoft and Sony buy games, but there is a reason that the Wii took over the most RPGs list in such a short time.

People like to throw around the word "hardcore RPG gamer," and tag it with Final Fantasy, but Final Fantasy and the Square Enix main properties are the most casual of RPGs on the market.  Mainstream RPGs are for casual gamers.  The hardcore RPG gamers are the people playing Shin Megami Tensei, Baten Kaitos, and Tales.

So, in conclusion, the Wii won't be the console of Final Fantasy, but it will be the console of hardcore JRPG fans, who play more than just the mainstream games.

PS: The actual console of JRPGs is the DS, which has a release list that makes the PS2 and SNES look like jokes.

Do you realize that Pokemon is hardly considered a deep or hardcore RPG game? I'm talking about hardcore RPG's, not what started off as a childrens anime and toy series. And come on, just because you think my predictions are stupid, there's no need to act up like a child, besides I already made an entire thread dedicated to the fact that my Galaxy prediction is going bust. No win for you.

You're wrong.  Pokemon has a huge hardcore following in tournaments and online metagame.  It's an incredibly deep online strategy game amongst tourney gamers.  Of course, the majority of its gamers are casual, just as 99% of Final Fantasy gamers are casual.  Pokemon started as a game.  The childrens cartoon split off of that, as did the cards and toys.  Sorry, but you really don't know JRPGS Mummelmann.

Well, I don't know Pokemon, at least. I always hated it. But I always think of games such as Xenogears, Final Fantasy and Hack when I think JRPG's with an hardcore audience. I'll admit fault in this, since I actually have that capacity. I see no reason to make a further ass of myself like most others would at this point.

Good day!

wow naznatips
