That is a horrible thought
Would it be better for the customers if Nintendo became a 3rd party? | |||

To answer the question in the OP: No just no.
without Nintendo making hardware, gaming today would be a very boring place( it would be graphically impressive, but boring).

yep.
There is nothing about a nintendo wii or WII U that the 360 or ps3 cant already do besides nintendo games. No one buys nintendo hardware for the hardware.

Nobody buys any hardware for the hardware. Video game consoles have a purpose.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Well PS2 was a DVD player and PS3 was a blu-ray player right?
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)
Why don't Sony or Microsoft cease making hardware and just make software for Nintendo consoles?

Which wouldn't work. (Not trying to say your idea is bad... it's just not such a great one. It just wouldn't work, nor make sense.) |

To be honest I think, in the long term, this is a very likely possibility. They wouldn't necessairly have to miss 10 million seller multiplayer games, they just have to place a mini-HDMI port and bluetooth (to connect controllers) in their next-gen handled device. If you consider Tegra 3, a one year old tecnology, is already capable of playing this at 720p (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_Ci2temTaA) in 5 years form now I guess mobile graphics will be good enough on TVs for Nintendo standards. |
It's never really been about system specs, though. It's more a careful balance between cost and performance. Nintendo will always opt for less-sophisticated graphics and focus more on input device and trying to be innovative with game design. That's what I like about them. After all...there are a lot of terrible games out there that look fantastic, but it's always the reverse of that which makes good games. Amazing, high-quality graphics mean nothing without strong gameplay behind them to back it up.

For everyone that is sayin YES... all that means is that you recognize that Nintendo makes good games, so why then do you not support their consoles?
