Forums - Gaming - So, EA deliberately strips Dead Space of the elements that made it great and cans it when it no longer appeals?!

Did EA strip away what made Dead Space Popular or did the try to make a niche series sell more? The Dead Space games aren't big sellers. The first two sold ok, but they aren't Halo or COD that is for sure. EA probably would not have continued the series, but gave it another chance and tried to appeal to a larger audience.

But who in their right mind thinks that changing a game after building up an audience is a good idea......Thats like the perfect way to anger an existing fanbase, prime example DMC.... i know dead space didn't change "that" much but people really need to learn from history otherwise they will keep repeating mistakes

This is exactly my point. I could care less WHY EA decided to completely change a game to a generic action shooter. The point being, the game was already established, well received, and sold a good bit of copies for a new IP on new consoles.

IT DIDN'T NEED TO BE CHANGED. Just expanded upon. Furthermore, this Dead Space complaint is a complete microcosm of the BIG problem. The elephant in the room. EA itself and how it's apparently lost it's soul.

Dead Space 1 and 2 didn't appeal to me, but Dead Space 3 looks cool. EA must want money from people like me because people who like Dead Space 1 and 2 weren't buying enough. All I'm saying is it isn't evil it's just business. The first two games didn't sell like EA wants and doing it the same was going to continue to do that. Changing it up was a gamble and we have yet to find out if it will pay off. If Dead Space 3 goes on to sell better than 1 and 3 the franchise will continue. If the only option was for the games to stay the same EA may not have invested in a third.

That right there..... Dead space sold 1.86 million on the PS3 and 1.30 million on the 360  and 530k on pcThats 3.66 million games sold....How on earth can you be serious in saying thats not enough for a new IP, those are some big numbers

Then they added multiplayer to dead space 2  Trying to appeal to the bigger market and that game sold even less with 2.58 million

Then they changed it again, They should have just stook with the idea of dead space one, and just made it scarier

EA are just Greedy and this will backfire on them

Seriously, when are people going to stop supporting Electronic Arts?! They MUST end these shady business practices. Seriously. They are doing more harm to gaming than good. I mean sure they have more money than God and they buy up any and and every new uber talented studio or ip so they can milk it to smithereens but WE as gamers and consumers should not reward their borderline evil business models by purchasing their products. Dead Space is the just the latest in a long line of titles that have been systematically lobotomized once EA got their hands on them. And with their movement towards microtransactions and Day 1 DLC, I think it's safe to say that EA has really lost its soul. Sometimes you get too big for your own britches and you lose sight of what made you great to begin win. EA in the 90s were LEADERS IN INNOVATION not just publishers who wanted to milk every single game dry then discard it like a piece of meat.

And don't get me started on EA Sports. And Madden. And NBA Live. Oh dear, Lord. The horror.

The sentiment is not realistic. People are never going to miss out on game they want to play just for the sake of making a point to the publisher.

Disagree completely. Support for EA has weakened each subsequent year. It's just that sadly their are a lot of uniformed gamers (usually young, whose parents buy all their games) who don't know just how remarkably evil EA's business models have become. It's out job as responsible consumers to put that info out there. I've opened the eyes of myriads of people I know about the shady business practices of EA, Microsoft, Capcom etc. etc. and they refuse to buy anymore of their games.

This will continue until they no longer have a stranglehold on the industry. No one stays on top forever. Especially when they lose their way and lose sight on what made them who they are.

What uninformed gamer? Kid I am on gaming sites/forum a  whole lot, I have a gaming culture that goes back to the Game & Watch and 2600 yet I still buy a good game if it is made by EA. Im not a snob little bitch that cries every time the EVILEA makes a terrible move that somehow will affect the whole gaming industry.

Grow the fuck up and learnd that there is no evil business model and EA is not satan. There is a successfull or less successfull business model. The rumors that circulated where BS, DS3 seems to be one solid action games, yet most people bitch about it all the time. Im willing to bet that youyr mouth is running yet you havent even gave it a try.

Dont want it, dont buy it, but dont try and convince others that your gaming taste superiority, and how to spend my hard earned cash.

KTHXBYE!

So the idiot consumer who will fork over his money to any company regardless of how anti-consumer, greedy, and soulless their business models and policies are is telling ME to grow up?

Oh, the irony.

The only thing I care about is games and I notice that EA is by far the 2nd publisher I own most games from (Behind Sony)...So yeah, that sucks what they're doing with Dead Space and Visceral. But as long as they make games I want I will be buying them. Sorry guys...

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Out of curiosity, what games were dying to play but didn't as a result of them being published by EA? Just asking because its easy to boycot someone when you have  no/little interest in their current line up.

Also I don't think they're what would be considered a "cancer". WHen people don't like the direction a game goes down in, they don't buy it and EA has no choice but to respond. "Dragon Age 2" and "Dead Space 3" are good examples. This is not the same a boycotting though, this is just supporting games you like and avoiding the games you dislike, the publisher is irrelevant. Remember that once you get over the propaganda of EA being the devil, you see that behind these games are in many cases passionate developers. If they produce something of quality it would be a shame not to support them just because EA the publishes it.

if they were passionate about their games they shouldn't work for a company that isn't passionate it about itself or its consumers. For my self I doubt I will buy any future EA games, so no more dragon age, deadspace, medal of honor, battlefield, mass effect, and I may even pass on bioshock too. Cant support companies lime this. The publisher is not irrelevant as they are major decisoon makers in games now as they control the money. It seems EA has gotten really good at killing promising franchises. Dead Space could of been great, instad it is seeing game over game declining sales. I hope most EA franchises see game over games losses so they rethink their strategy.

Game devs don't only add multiplayer to appeal to the mass market, they do it mostly to try to stop people from trading it 3 days after buying it. EA saw sales fall and hoped change would help. We will see if it works or not. We were lucky to get a 3rd game at all.

No, its called working in the domain, and knowing that keeping a job is far more important, than having issues with microtransaction.

If the game is GOOD and I see value in it,  I dont care is Lucifer was the lead programmer. Im putting my money where my mouth is and not bitching about it, and than buying it regardless, when the inevitable GOTY awards arrive

nah i got it for the ps3, whats so bad about the wiiU version?

It's Fifa 12 with Wii U controls. They literally took last year's game, threw it on the Wii U and laughed their asses off at every sucker that paid full retail price for a year-old sports game.

I thought that was just for the Wii game?  They did that to the Wii U game too?  You can pull up numerous articles on the Wii version being the same.
