The handheld market in America is only going to shrink so it will depend on whether 3ds shrinks faster than vita.

shrink even more? i actually see the handheld market growing in the next year or two

That is very unlikely. The handheld market is being eclipsed and ultimately swallowed by the smartphone/tablet market. The days of the dedicated handhelds are over.

OT: No, there's no way, 3DS numbers in that region may be bad but they're still about 350% more than the Vita right now.

Everyone seems to think this is a 100% truth these days however I disagree. Nintendo willl keep going for another two handheld consoles AT LEAST just off their poularity in Japan, Cash in the Bank, and proven track record of adapting and creating new industries.

I used to belive this Tablets/Smartphones will kill porable consoles bussiness, than I bought A tablet (nexus 7). The games just do not compare in the slightest.

Yea i kno! Nintendo will never give that up, just cause its now down doesn't mean it'll dry up! Anyway people are really underestimating one Name...... Pokemon, no matter how much ipads/etc will take the market, pokemon belongs on handhelds and people would buy a handheld for the game alone, 5-20 years pokemon wont die! Some people are just ignorant to think Nintendo (especially in Japan) will ever be terminated in handheld gaming!

In four words, no.

...NO

They might be able to lead the week GoW comes out. but let's be real, how many games does the 3ds have coming this year? the 3ds is set. game. and match.

I know most people have written off the Vita as a doomed system, but I still believe it can reach close to PSP numbers between the typical long lifespan of a Sony system, and it's potential to hit huge sales in japan where handhelds are dominant.

I see it kind of like the PS3; slow start, but plenty of long term potential.

i agree, but the thing needs to start turning around, and soon. the first year of the ps3 was rough but things did starting getting slighty better afterwords. the vita (specially in USA) is having a really really hard time. things need to change and soon

Well, it does have Soul Sacrifice and Killzone Mercenary on the way, the Japanese price cut has reportedly caused sales to surge, similar price cuts in the West could follow with similar success, and not to sound like a broken record, but Monster Hunter is all but an inevitability.

Japan will be the turning point; they LOVE handhelds, and they loved the PSP. With the right games, Vita could be huge in Japan.

vita could sell really well in japan i agree. this week it did 60K with the price cute, good sales but lets hope the sales stabilize at a good number. killzone is still half a year away, also killzone isnt really a huge system seller, the best selling killzone sold just a little less than 3 million. but hopefully more is to come. E3 cant come any sooner

Killzone could be the first truly good console-style FPS on a handheld, that could be a selling point in itself.

And I'm sure there is more to come; Sony have invested too much in the Vita to let it die. The support is coming.

I really doubt killzone will do anything, isnt the PS4 receiving a Killzone at launch? If I was a fan of the series I would prefer that one over the vita version and also what games have sony announced since the vita launch that could change its fate?

No way. 3DS has some big games on the horizon. The Vita would have to ship with either a massive price drop or a jesus.

A few weeks isnt impossible but regulary.. No.. All you guys are talking about more core games but what the vita is truely lacking is appeal to girls and women.. You can't win without them.. Nintendo is much better at supporting that audience

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

You're assuming Vita has a price cut AND Nintendo does nothing to bolster 3DS sales. such as releasing games.

People can afford to buy two games, and you can't play PS4 Killzone on the go. ;)

The rumoured FFX remake, and the eventnual Gran Turismo and God of War games could help change it's current course.

Dont forget that 3DS is getting 2 Monster Hunter games this year, and one is a portable companion to the WiiU version.

Though MH will boost sales of Vita it wont be by as much for the PSP because it is not portable exclusive any more.

It will still be a big booster though. I feel like Japan is just waiting for an excuse to be all over the Vita, MH would give them one.

Perhaps the week of the price cut, but what with the big games on the way (Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon etc.) I can see the gap growing to over 50k shortly.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.
