Forums - Gaming - Top 7 franchises this gen

Even having been a huge Resistance fan, I do somewhat have to disagree with it's place here. Where Resistance 1 was beautiful, and Resistance 2 had some of the greatest competitive and co-op MP I've ever played, Resistance 3 was seriously lacking, and just about ruined the franchise for me. It removed pretty much everything that set the first 2 apart, royally f*cked up the story, took away the awesome co-op, and gave a us a lousy MP that was nothing more than CoD with Resistance weapons. The game sucked. I don't even need to mention Burning Skies.... *shudders*

Uncharted was an obvious given. Infamous was brilliant too. The 2nd one pretty much demolished the first in every way.

I know it technically isn't a franchise, but I would've figured The Last of Us might have been honorably mentioned. Fantastic game.

I would, actually, argue that Resistance 3 brought back many of the mechanics that made the original so much fun. As most other Resistannce fans agree, it was R2 that "royally" messed many things up (ex - removing the Weapon Wheel as one stand out feature was unforgivable to many).

I disliked r2 and never bothered with online mp, BUT R3 was epic. The story was very character driven and it def. had its moments, one of my all time favs. Online MP IMO was awesome cause I am a casual when it comes to MP so the cod feel this mp has was to my liking. What I love about resistance is its guns they are awesomely designed (Mutator being my favorite) Insomniac is awesome with unique gun creation :D

My List (Not Franchises per se):

Uncharted/Last Of Us

Infamous (Underrated +BS Edge Bias)

Super Mario Galaxy

Ratchet and Clank

Gears Of War

Ni No Kuni

Heavy Rain

In no particular order:

Scribblenauts
Uncharted
Assassin's Creed
BIoshock
New Super Mario Bros
Demon's/Dark Souls
Borderlands

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

With this thinking, despite a higher Meta, Gran Turismo is leaps and bounds better than Forza. Again - using that thought process, not that it is or isn't that way in absolute.

Thats different.

What I meant was people actually played Resistance and 'then' shunned the series.

Forza is the opposite. Its growing. So more people  are buying Forza because its quality with each progressive game.

Res 1 = 4.16 mill

Res 2 = 2.37 mill

Res 3 = 1.31 mill                          OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!

People clearly dont agree Resistance franchise is worth their time. Even those that bought into the series in the first place.

Forza 1 = 1.06 mill

Forza 2 = 4.00 mill

Forza 3 = 5.38 mill

Forza 4 = 4.00 mill            Growth and sustanance. See completely different to Resistance lack of support.

Gran Turismo is wieder still.

5 is odd. Its droped 4 mill in US on GT3. dropped 4 mill in EU and dropped 1 mill in Japan. Yet Rest Of World is up 4 mill. Very odd. Forza 4 actually has already sold more in EU than GT5 and nearly leveled the playing field in US. I'm surprised by this.

The numbers are messed up for GT5. Forza has not sold more than it there. Not sure what happened, but ioi explained this in another thread. As for Resistance, people were hurt enough by R2, but that doesn't mean R3 was of less quality. Plus, going by what you posted, Forza 3-Forza 4 (5.38mill vs 4.00mill) had an even bigger drop than Resistance 2 - Resistance 3 (2.37mill vs 1.31mill), which, of course, doesn't take into account ratios, but it still creates perspective. In neither case would I say it's bad, but that's definitely not "growth" for Forza.

Right now, those figures do not prove what you're saying, otherwise you then have to admit that Call of Duty is the most quality driven franchise around, even more than Mario, GT, or Halo.

While I personally dont agree. The sales show COD holds a high quality value that has meaning  to many players. It has a huge folowing with alot of love whether we personally agree or not. This also applies to GT. Reviews aside more people currently hold its value higher than Forza.
