X360 had an entire year headstart and cost less so what did you expect? MS was too desperate that they released an incomplete X360 (No wifi, no HDMI out, no mandatory HDD) just to compete. And let's not speak about the embarrassing failure rate at the first few years.

But isn't that double-edged? Sony released an overprice console that were supossed to sell based only on the name. It was not until some price cuts and additions when they started winning market share. Both parts did horrible when releasing their consoles.

The PS3 never added/removed anything important. It cost much because it had a built in BluRay drive. And they were selling at great losses so you should be grateful.

Backwards compatibility and number of USB ports is not important?  Did you just seriously write that?

It would also be nice if companies game out t-shirts to individuals obsessing over what place their console of choice showed up in the end as far as sales.  This way, they would get something of value for their useless harping and obsessing.

Any "win" at this stage would be phyrric at best.

By the time it does, the 8th gen will be well under way. Passing the winner after the race finishes isn't really winning.

I wonder what sales will after the announcement of the PS4? Not much of a change or a bid drop off? Maybe a small drop who knows but the PS3 is selling really well right now so I guess it doesn't matter.

Not sure how people can expect to be taken seriously when they're using the 77 million figure for 2012 when that is a bad estimate from IDC and the true figure is 75.5 million at the absolute best case scenario. Adding 2 million to your starting figure then calculating a percentage drop based on one consoles strongest region is even more ludicrous. This thread is pure gold.

In 2020 people will question "Which console was the market leader in 7th gen consoles?" The answer will be PS3 and nobody will remember Wii or 360... that's how the history was made.

PS3 110-115 million coming at the end to be the best selling console this generation.

My prediction: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=150842

in 2020? will "people" even care about the 7th gen.  cause if they do whats that say about the 8th gen heading out to the 9th?

Only this gen can the last place gamers act like winners.

I'm guessing you're referring to 360 gamers since they are inevitably the last place console... but yes, it IS fascinating.

But not today. So really, PS fans been counting chickens before they hatch since 2006. Sigh.

You know what else is embarrasing? Sony losing a large chunk of it's console to a newcomer.

Its gonna come close. Best 3rd place system of all time.

PS3 is already 2nd
VGC numbers are wrong
...Oh the 360 is getting outsold since 2008...Just add every 2 weeks 5 million  to the 360 and don't add anything to the PS3!Legit!
360 = Only Console in history who is managing to gain higher gaps even if it is selling less than the competition.

PS3 = 2nd
Wii is to far away but we will see - The PS2 still sold for a few years damn strong and the PS3 has a nice library.

Using IDC guessitmates?

yes but what some naysayers fear most is the impending phallic victory.

Wii:  "Number 1, I order you to take a Number 2 Engage"

PS3:  "Yes Captain!"
