Amazing game. One of the best of all time. I played all three in the series when they originally came out, but I need to revisit them in the Trilogy. I have it sitting on my shelf unplayed.

I think people who may not have liked Metroid Prime too much 10 years ago should give Metroid Prime Trilogy a try. I think the improved controls really do make that much of a difference. The Problem Metroid Prime 1 and 2 had were the controls. They were so clunky and bothersom because the game was in first person, but the controls were not first person controls. Metroid games can be easily addictive. One thing that worked so well with the old games were that the controls were perfect and the game was easy to get into. The first two MP games had a problem with that and that problem was later fixed with Metroid Prime 3 and Metroid Prime Trilogy and now I find the first two MP games just as fun and addictive as any Metroid game.

It's a shame Nintendo made Metroid Prime Trilogy a limited release. Nowadays, you have to look on the internet for it.

Great feedback. Having played decades of FPSs I'm still a little surprised when I walk into a room, and have to jump here, and then jump there and ball-roll under this and then I'm thinking, 'wait, am I platforming now?' And the first real puzzle I left when the answer wasn't obvious, thinking it's poor design, because I'm not used to having to do that sort of thinking in a FPS.

I think MP would be better as a 3rd person shooter, rather than FPS but maybe I'll continue to warm up to t's unique style.

I actually have Super Metroid but never played it (I can't be bothered to dig out the classic controller when I sit down to play). Tried getting into the NES Metroid but tired of it quickly. Will have to give Super Metroid a try.

Quick story:

Back in 2002 my son had Metroid Prime for his GC, but never played it much.  I tried it 2-3 times, could never get into it.  Found all the scanning boring and gameplay slow.  I also hated dual analog for aiming - was a long time PC gamer.

Metroid Prime doesn't use dual-analog controls.

That's right... It had a lock-on feature - which I hated.  At the time as a PC FPS fan, the need for 'lock-on' or nowadays the more descrete 'aim assist' always made me sneer at console FPS.  I felt it was like cheating or a kiddie version of a real FPS.  That's partly how Wii drew me in - real aiming, especially in sandbox games like Godfather and Scarface where it was a liberation from necessary lock-on.  Shame GTA never got ported.

Prime was awesome. I still remember how amazed I was by it back in 2002. The Gamecube actually had a lot of great titles in its first year: Luigi's Mansion, Eternal Darkness, Rogue Squadron, Pikmin, Smash Bros., Sonic Adventure 2... It was quite different from the early N64 days when we were basically waiting for months to get our hands on the next great game haha

Back on topic: I so want to play this game again but whenever I think about it I'd rather want to play the Trilogy version of it so I always back off and tell myself "one day you'll buy Trilogy" lol. Hopefully we'll get an HD remake of Trilogy on the Wii U Virtual Console.

Prime is awesome, I think a lot of times when you see something that's a little different you compare it in your head to what you already and assume its not interesting enough or something. However, just glancing at it you miss the core reason why the game is so great.

This happened to me with Re4, I tried to play didn't like it initially, watched my brother play, didn't seem interesting.

Played RE5 (not liked is much like the other M) co-op and got addicted to the gameplay. Went back to Re4 and now I think it's one of the best games ever.

Metroid is a great series! Were all waiting on Metroid for Wii U! That one should have great gameplay and awesome graphics!

edit: that game will take you awhile! You got 3 long ass games! You'll be busy for weeks, unless your playing 8 hours a day lol

Weeks?  Years!  I only usually get in 15-30 minutes of play 3-4 times a week.  Normally I avoid games like MP which require longer sessions but it's got me hooked currently so I've been playing longer than normal.   Still, it'll be a long, long time (no doubt with many other games inbetween) before I finish the trilogy.

Still haven't finished LoZ:SS.  O_o      And then there's Xenoblade.... sigh....

I don't call Metroid Prime the one shining light of Nintendo's GC output without good reason.

It is just that damn good, in the midst of an era of misfires.

I've accepted the lock-on as an extentsion of its usage in the Zelda series (adventure games unite!). I think it really allowed Retro to focus on creating encounters focused on strategy and dodging, not pure skill.
