Forums - Microsoft - Next Xbox to be called "Xbox Live"?

TheFallen said:
It was called 360 because of the 360 degree Circle of lights on console and controller. 720 sounds stupid, like we're going round in circles.

If the rumors about the console being Kinect centric end up being true, that might actually be what will happen. =P

No, seems like a terrible idea, they won't name their console the same as their ongoing online service, what will they call the 360's still usable online service?

This would be confusing and silly at best, there's no way.

No, the XBox live logo is always included whenever live can be used with or on a game, etc.

PSN does not exist anymore, folks. It's SEN that has taken it's place. Besides, do you know the amount of confusion there would be if the next console was called xbox live? it would be lower than idiotic to have such a name. I'd trust an 8 year old to come up with something better.

Don't be silly.

Need I finally say, SEN can be accessed on a number of consoles, meanwhile, Xbox live can only basically be accessed from a PC and 360, for the most part.  Whatever the case, the name of the new console wouldn't be a service that's still current.  That's stupid.  I'm sure developers would pressure microsoft to call it something different.

Only, you're wrong.  Are you really a PS3 user?

Oh, whatever.

Not to add fuel to the fire, but in the leaked Microsoft documents I'm pretty sure they referenced it as Xbox Live as well.

I don't believe the always on rumors. Mostly because it creates a problem for those who live in rural areas. There are features of the next gen Xbox that will benefit from being connected. The ability to sync your profile so no matter where you go you can sign in and be recognized. No more thumb drives or saving to the cloud, everything is sync'd.

I think the other problem is that they dilute the brand. LIVE needs to be ubiquitous across platforms. Not associated with one device. You have Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, and Xbox 8 all connecting to the LIVE service. Naming it Xbox Live would confuse Live across the different devices that connect to it.

They wouldn't have made the point of saying "Also coming on next gen consoles" if they had approval to mention all next gen consoles.

Who looks at logos? The big caption saying "also coming to next gen consoles" makes sure people realize its going to next gen consoles.

Apparently there are people who do, because we have a thread dedicated to discussing it.

That would sound as confusing as naming a console Wii U

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

I dont really like the name. Not horrible but I dont care for it. whle they have really built up the xbox brand, I could see them not using xbox in the name to give it a fresh feel.

I wouldn't mind the name. Would also be a bit fitting compared to the vita.
