I mean, this is where the HUGE intangible comes into play: community. Good communities should reward good posts with replies that give credit to the poster for their unique and thoughtful insights. And good posts in turn make good communities with high expectations.

Instead, we have the point system that rewards quantities of posts. The huge amount of posts in turn drives away people who can't tolerate the low quality posts and only retains the ones who care about points and the size of their e-peen.

Making a lot of threads and spam is two different things.  By this point you all really should just call this the I hate JayWood2010 thread.  

P.S. i never got to reply to you earlier about your ban but I agree with the ban I recieved about Apple.  I thought it was funny but I still realize that i shouldnt have done it.

I think you're taking this a bit too personally jaywood. And in regards to my thread, you had taken that too personally too, there is a clear difference between your thread, and my single sentence. Yours literally (And I only use the word 'literally' when it's true) attacks people who support Apple, and apple itself, and mocks it as a gaming platform. (I still thought it was funny)

I'm not attacking you, I'm agreeing with Akvod. It is kind of annoying to see the front page, have 4 threads be "greatest character thread voting", 3 about the same subject, and 5 spam threads (spam threads are threads that encourage spamming like "say something about the person above you", "what is your job", "name X...and rate the one above", "What is the best Y")
And only like 3 good threads about sales and theories and predictions.


How am i suppose to not take this personally when my name is plastered all over this thread.  The people being mentioned like

me
Tbone
Pezus
Spurge

Are some of the best user on this site and are contributing to both original threads and news threads(from other sites).  I for one could care less about points and ive never heard spurge or pezus talk about them  I was picking on bananaking yesterday but me and him always joke around.  I along with the people i mentioned above do not go around posting in every thread with a one word comment and besides last night I usually put time into my threads.  The greatest character thread ( Iloved the gamespot one years ago so i wanted to do one) is designed for fan fun and opinions.  If i wanted points i wouldnt have put a poll in it and forced people to comment.  Instead im treating it like my database and updating it when i can.

As for your thread i dont want to argue about that.  I just said I agree with my ban.

And if you take the people out that i mentioned above then this site would be a lot different.  Can you see this site without Pezus for example?  I know i cant.  He give great posts and threads a like and the same goe to the others i mentioned

Well for one, you're melting down because people are saying that some of your threads are garbage, or are there for points. If it's only kind of a joke thing you're doing, then there's no reason to get upset about it. 

SooOoO, yeah, you do take things too personally.

The problem with your thinking is that you think YOU and a couple other people are the heart and soul of this website, but in reality, if you just moved over a bit, there are plenty of people who are willing to take up the slack....

Again, these aren't attacks, and I hope you can see that once you've calmed down a bit.

Again, two seperate issues and systems.

The argument is that one system is increasing the volume of bad threads. The other system is about what % of bad threads are caught.

It still helps to reduce the amount of work mods have to do.

This is a sales site, but that seems a bit overboard.

im already making a thread about predicting the sales of gears of war if it came to the ps3. and another one  for gears of war 2 and a third for gears 3. i hope you enjoy them all

So you're arguing, that if getting rid of the point system reduces the amount of bad threads, that we shouldn't because it gives less for mods to do?

I don't really follow the second or third paragraph. If I understand correctly, are you saying that the people against the point system just want more sales discussion? I don't really know how to forecast sales, so I'm not interested in it. What everyone does want is less bad threads that bump down the good threads.
