Forums - Gaming - Why I switched from PlayStation to Nintendo

I tried leaving video games for movies once. I couldn't tell when I got there.

So you basically sayin' Playstation games are hot girls with no personality...so Nintendo's games are old lovely grannies that still treat you like a boy even though you're already a grown up then?

I rather stick with the hot girls then, they're at least fun to play with...

I think he also means they're the hot girls who aren't as uh.. interactive. Sure, they're fun because they're hot, but you're left wondering what you've actually accomplished afterwards.

what are you talking about? what has sony done wrong

Don't you see? They've done everything wrong. They created a world where only the question, "How real do the boobs look?" became the defining factor for a game!

Nice.  I think I have to cite this post in the future A LOT. Sony aren't the only game company, that sets the priorities in the way you wrote.

I used to be a big PlayStation fan back in the PS1 days and the Spyro games were my favorite. I felt right at home, but over time it became more and more apparent that Sony and I had to part ways. While I grew up to leave my teenager years behind me, Sony refused to do the same. For the handful of female members we have around here, let me point out the entire scope of a male teenager's brain:

1) Is she hot?
2) If yes, how hot is she?

This mindset doesn't only apply to how male teenagers perceive women, but everything else as well. While I began to look at the finer details of games, Sony was still stuck in a mentality where only superficial things really mattered. The advancement of technology became less important to me over time, because a mediocre game with pretty graphics would still be a mediocre game. I wanted my games to be great at their core, not full of distractions that covered up for an unpolished/unbalanced game. You might say that good gameplay and good graphics are not mutually exclusive and you would be right for saying this. That's why I switched to Nintendo who have the highest batting average when it comes to making games like that.

I still follow the news on Sony systems and games, but time and time again I end up being disappointed, because they are unwilling to change. The PS4 announcement wasn't an exception to this rule, but further confirmation. I hope that one day I can own a Sony system without regrets again, but until then I'll stick to Nintendo games.

So basically: Sony is too kiddy?

Except they haven't and this is some retarded exaggeration people have conjured up.

Why do people like me and Aldro rave about Uncharted? Only because it looks nice?

Well, actually a friend of mine who was showing off his Vita with Uncharted was concentrating on the fact how nice it looks.

Thought it was a troll - then I saw the amount of posts.

Erm, I have no idea what you are on about or what you are getting at. If you are implying that Nintendo have deeper games than the Playstation, then I'll stop laughing and just drive my head into my desk really fucking hard as I'll have lost all hope for current gamers.

NB. To clarify, you're saying that Metroid has more depth and less sexism than Heavy Rain or Ico. Need I say more?

Very much less. Disregarding Other M, anyway...

Erm, as in Metroid has less sexism and more depth than some of Sonys games, or some of Sonys games are very deep?

Can you explain instead, because it seems that all you are rambling about is things you can't even justify.

Wow, I thought I couldn't have really have made it clearer, so here it is again.  Sony has produced some very deep, mature, and intresting games, from Flower, Heavy Rain, to the Team Ico series, thus for OP to say Playstation only has sexist games is utter trash and shows that the only issue is that OP hasn't played enough games.

There were 16 colssi.

Again, need I say more?

Oh, and the envioroments is part of the design, the design which is part of the games esthetics. You have dug yourself into a really deep hole.

Now, I fucked up with the number, I guess I raped the game so bad I didn't remember there were so many along the way. I beat it in 14 hours, so sue me, and 4 of those hours were on the final boss.

Regardless, there is very little story inside the game, so the argument is over.

The OP never said that PlayStation has sexist games. No wonder that there is a communication problem, if you are trying to refute points that were never made.

So then did you not clarify your point when I asked? I stated that your point was ambigious and if you could clarify, but here we are...

My point was that Nintendo makes deeper games with more balanced gameplay mechanics (thus staying relevant for years after release which is a testament to substance) and I brought up SSBB vs. PSABR as an example. You then drew nonsensical comparisons between games of different genres and didn't answer my question if you are German.

Pwahahaha, rightyo if that's how you saw reality unfolding. You compared two games of probably the most shallow genre, and then ran away when I mentioned things like SotC, Ico, Flower, Journey, Heavy Rain etc. Those games are far more involved, mature, emotionally gripping than any Nintendo game. But apparently, SSBB is the peak depth of gaming.

This will never end because you and Rol have diametrically opposed value systems. He sees gameplay as non-superficial (hence deep), and you see story, emotional relevance, environment, visuals as non-superficial (hence deep).

Though anyone in their right mind will agree that a great story, good characters, vibrant worlds can get a player at a more personal level, some enjoy gameplay so much that it gets them at a very deep level, so this is a lost cause as to trying to reconciliate gamers with two very different value systems when it comes to games.

Those valuing story/visuals/worlds over gameplay.

Those valuing gameplay over story/visuals/worlds.
