I can live with seeing what the PS4 has to offer,it would have been great but I guess they are just too different

but still Sony is on its way to provide emulation.  They already patented a way to emulate the RSX apparently :D

yes well it makes sense,i'd assume you'd would want a big store selling lots of stuff,it must be decent money digital these days,i spend loads anyway compared too what i did a couple of years ago

however they do it they'll have to get it done, most people won't want to plug in 2 different home machines to shop &play

ps4 doesn't have a cell to run ps3 games

Time for hype

Rumors are not interchangeable with facts, and they should never be treated as confirmations. Only Microsoft knows what is under their hood, and that is just that the way it is until they make up their minds to share. I am tired of people jumping to unfounded conclusions, because they think it makes them look smart. When all doing that really does is make them look arrogant, or worse totally disconnected from reality.

In the context of this discussion. Microsoft has absolutely jack shit to do with this discussion, and seeing as we don't know anything about their plans. There isn't any evidence there to prove anything on subject or not. All it really was about is trying to change the subject, or make Sony look bad by smearing somebody else. Which is hardly all that necessary.

Given the fact that the chances of Sony honoring backward compatibility were already pegged as being incredibly low anyway. We know their hardware not being industry standard hurt them with developers. We also knew they had a fairly good track record of not offering the feature as of late across the entire platform. We even having seeming proof that not including it in the long run didn't adversely effect their brand all that much. It might be a concern with gamers, but it is obviously a secondary one.

People complained about the Cell in the old system, and now people are complaining about the implications of Cell going away in the new system.

Moral of the story: There will always be people who complain about everything.

It's because backwards compatibility is a last gen feature. Duh.

ok people lets use some logic. the ps4 is NOT backwards compatible. PSN games that you play on PS3 are PS3 games! the only difference between them and retail games is the way you purchase them, they still are PS3 games. if PS4 isnt backwards compatible and cant run PS3 games then how the hell do you expect it to run digital PS3 games?

WiiU is backwards compatible so that means it can run digitally bought Wii games and play it on them, so transferring them is only logical. but why the hell would you want to transfer digital games from your ps3 to your ps4 if your ps4 cant play them?

Too many people to reply to, so I'm not quoting anyone. You guys are all talking from the publisher's point of view. I'm talking about a consumer's point of view.

New computers will run old computer games that you have on your profile. New iPhones and new iPads run your old iOS games. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the same is true for Android devices.

I guess this is just really further proof to the "stone age" that consoles themselves live in. If they can't keep up with the advancing of technology and consumer expectations for owned digital content, then they truly are dinosaurs by nature. I only hope Microsoft tries to really change the game with the next Xbox, because continuing down this console path is continuing down a path to irrelevancy when you have other major devices growing your market instead.

Games a consumer purchases on a digital account should be available to play on any device that user has such an account tied to. Such is how the world has evolved outside of our slow console cycles, and such is the new standard of consumer expectations.

I congratulate Nintendo for at least trying to get this right, but Sony is outright blind to it. It makes me sad to see such a flaw.

I wouldnt expect them 2, like others have said its different architecture, and theres some big changes from the PS3 to the PS4.

yeah but eventually via emulation or Gaikai, the games will be available for download through the PS4 PSstore.  Something similar with PSP games and PSone classics for the VITA, they required to be emulated in order to be playable in the device.

Yes there was talk of streaming with Gaikai wasn't there? im interested 2 hear more about Gaikai I hope they talk about it at E3.

Check out my Youtube channel : http://www.youtube.com/user/ThePSXcollector

This shows hardcorz ps3 fans will take and accept this shit... =) while other non-hardcore ps3 potential buyers will be put off by it.. just like the vitas no bc.. thats worked well for sony ! thats why people would rather the psp!....

but but but... handhelds and consoles are not the same cried the hardcorz..

That is the prime example of why I LOVE Steam so much. A service that is linked to user account and not hardware.

PSN and LIVE should be far enough developed where users should be able to continue memberships to new consoles without having to re-purchase titles. Every generation brings new gamers anyway, why nickle and dime your loyal users?
