Forums - Gaming - Xbox might be the 3rd parties system of choice

To me the problem isn't used games but how they're being sold , this isn't like the old days where you got them at a second hand store or boot sale , they are now being sold in the same stores as new games and in direct competition since you are quite often pushed toward the second hand purchase even when you bring a new game to the counter .
You don't go into dept stores and find second hand goods next to the new stuff and being promoted yet it happens with games and that is the problem not used games themselves .

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

every compsny that tried to restrict second hand games saw games sales drop. So, i don't see how that benefits microsoft. You can't take two totally different things from almost 30 years apart and give a reason why one would work over the other...  As far as 85% goes...  Sure...  That 85% is a moving target because the gaming industry is getting bigger and bigger.  Far bigger than it was back in the 80's, or we wouldn't have had a crash.

Atari failed because there was tons of crap being pushed out. No one wanted those games anyway. If you made a good game for nintendo back then, you had nothing to worry about... And, I'm using "good game" very loosely.

Putting restrictions on who can buy what versus who can release what are two different things. You can release it, but, it doesn't mean people will buy it. You can not release something and people wont buy it. Put restrictions on what you can do with the game, and fewer people will buy it.

Not a benefit to microsoft, because games that have DRM or 2nd handed lock-outs fail. This is like trying to argue that going all digital next gen would be a good idea. It wouldn't.

Would third parties be dumb enough to try something like this? Maybe. But only in rare circumstances.

Yep, that's the biggest problem and the reason for the moans of the publishers.

They don't complain about used games as much as they complain about the stores selling used games for almost the same price as a new one and trying to force consumers to buy those used games instead of the new ones. If used games were sold for 20 € (at most), there wouldn't be such a big problem.

OT: While third parties would like to give their favor to a console that blocks used games, the reality nowadays is that they need to launch their games on as many platforms as possible to have success, even more when we talk about console launches. And if the platform that doesn't block used games sells more copies and consoles, publishers won't be able to ignore it.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Nintendo won't get good third party support anyway, so they don't have to follow.

Third parties are going to put their games not only in PS4/720 but in PS3/360 too for a while to be profitable. If they restrict themselves not only to 720/PS4 but to one of them things will get ugly.

Thats pretty much why the Wii U will get decent support until next year or a year after, but thats about as far as it will stretch.

Yes, some devs are actually that stupid. You're right. I am however hoping that underneath they know that the bullshit they keep saying about piracy and used game sales is...bullshit.

I agree. Many think they'll sell 100% of all lost used sales if they aliminate the used game market, but speaking from my own experience, some games I'll sometimes deem only worthy enough for a used game purchase (3rd priority, behind the bestsellers, willing to dish out full price for those, and the 2nd priority, which is to wait for price cut/platinum).
