I think blocking used games might scare a lot of 3rd parties. The PSQuattro is a very dev friendly console and I hear a lot of positive news from devs. I expect a lot of indie games and pc games. Creative Assembly, makers of Total War is supporting the PSQuattro for chrisssake! Also Diablo 3 and The Witness!

isnt blocking used games for 3rd parties  to make money as well?  every software company is in the same boat.  think rockstar gtav.  what if instead of 10 million only  1 million bought the game and 9 million got it used.  wheres there profit for them?

What if instead of selling 10 million and nothing used it sells 10 million and 9 million used?

Then in their eyes, that's "9 million potential sales they did not get"

I don't agree with it either, but you only need to look at the articles coming out from some developers wanting this kind of block for used games.

Let's assume the Nextbox does restrict used games. And let's assume a Nextbox game would make more profit than a game on another console that played used games. Even if those were true, I don't see anything that suggests that the Nextbox would get noticeably more support than the other consoles. Even if the other consoles play used games, new games would still make money on the console in spite of the used game market, much like today. Because other consoles will still have opportunity for profit, developers aren't going to ignore it. They'll probably continue to make multiplats ike they do today. Why would they ignore profit?

It could actually backfire aswell, lets say nextbox doesnt play used games, so consumers shift towards the ps4, devs therefore make games on the platform that gives them the most potential sales and nextbox loses the console war.

that means for every game a customer buys is resold 9 times, i doubt that ever happens, at most i think it'll be closer to every game sold a used copy is bought

It's a weird situation, if one console were to block used games but the others didn't. Even if it did cause developers to gravitate towards one console, I feel like consumers would just move towards another console, which would cause a weird vacuum.

But anyway, I don't see it happening.

If MS decide to implement as many restrictions and fees as it sounds like, it could be the opposite. Its not like developers are making money off of Live subscriptions and restrictions will drive some customers away from the platform.
I refuse to believe these rumors though, adopting such a closed market and development ground seems like a majorly stupid move, too stupid for a company as old and experienced as Microsoft.

Are you referring to my post or an earlier post?

I was referring to "Sold 10 million, but had the potential to be 19 million"

If Rome 2 or even Shogun came to PS4 I would cry in happiness.  The total war series is amazing and I had an unhealthy obsession with Rome but my computers have been unable to run it since Rome (never should've bought a Mac but I won't make that mistake once this thing runs its course).

The 720 and PS4 will have 90% the same games. The other ten percent will be exclusives. This will be the first gen in which they come in a similar window. Microsoft might have more developers, but Sony has multiple teams,so really third parties will have less loyalty than any other gen. Its going to come down to exclusives this gen.

I was thinking about the same thing, and I think the cost to developers becoming exclusive to the 720 will be far greater to them, than to continue the current system where used games are allowed, cause they will lose out on the PS4's potential buyers.
