Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony/Microsoft Could Make Nintendo Very Uncomfortable This Holiday

Your thoughts?

Wii U will make a comeback 152 42.70%

Wii U to grow bigger than the Wii 29 8.15%

Wii U izz Dooomed 175 49.16%

Total:356

I see PS4/Xbox doing really well this fall - providing they meet their schedules. If Xbox has a good launch line up then all the more reason for them to keep the pressure on the Wii U. I'd like to see how often they can pump games after their respective systems launch.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

Wii U is doing bad because most of it`s launch line-up were games already released and there wasn`t a system seller at launch - not to mention advertisment didn`t work at all.
By now, Wii U pratically has no games coming out... literally.

By year´s end, Wind Waker and two or three Nintendo titles will be out. Most likely, Mario Kart and Yoshi.
I doubt Nintendo will let this drought happen again next year - when they can capitalize on PS4 and X720`s shortages and lack of games.

If PS4 and X720`s launch line-up is basically the same as PS3 and X360 holiday titles, combined with a high price, it`s both future consoles that have a lot to lose to the older generation.

No lol, WiiU will benefit from Zelda and Mario greatly. If anyone is in trouble its them, neither can overshadow the WiiU. Halo released this year, so no Halo for this Holiday. Unless its a remake which wouldn't have much of a chance against a brand new Mario. Sony has GT but GT has been said is coming to PS3. Micro/Sony has other franchises but Mario can go head to head with any of them. PS3/360 are dropping this year and their successors won't help. Nextgen Micro/Sony platforms will be around 100 bucks more expensive with alot of multiplats. WiiU if anything has its best chance against them this year. Holiday deals and Nintys wave of games should help it greatly.

Your poll is flawed. I think the Wii U wont sell as much as the ps4 or xbox 720 but as with the Gamecube it will still sell 30-40M and will make a profit for Nintendo. Its not doomed.

Nintendo is going to compete with fading seventh generation consoles and overly expensive eighth generation consoles with limited software this holiday season. It's not an insurmountable challenge to sell a $299 system (including a game) with blockbuster releases.

The bigger question is how will Sony and Microsoft be able to prevent a post-launch slump for their consoles while Nintendo can look back on a full year of games for the Wii U.

Sony and MS have these things called third parties that make games for them, so they don't go through months and months of no games.

lol. Considering that a new Mario Kart, and even possibly the next 3D Mario game will be out by Holidays 2013, and considering the Wii U will have a lot more games out for it by that time, I really kind of doubt that Sony and MS launches are going to put THAT much heat on the system. But hey....what would the internet be without "Nintendo is Doomed" threads?

It's true. If Sony and Ms launch well. The WiiU might get forgotten and the 3DS slightly sidelined

Imagine what will happen to the Vita though.

Sony and Microsft aren't going to launch with lots of units though. Due to the fact that they will lose so much much for selling each unit they will not produce that many eary on until components get cheaper and will try to offset the cost by getting the units into the hands of the most dedicated gamers who are going to purchase more software for it.

Nintendo does need to be agressive but I think they will be just fine this Christmas.  They need more games and will have them.. They will have Pikmin 3 and Wind Waker HD this Christmas as well as either Mario 3d and/or Mario Kart plus Bayonetta 2. They may also have some surprises. If Nintendo does a small price drop and a bundle such as 279.99 for a White Wiiu with New Super Mario Bros U i think they will have an enormous Christmas.  Handheld sales are largely momentum based. The more kids who have them in their hands the more the other kids are jealous for not having them. They will sell even more 3ds units this year than last year and will have a big new Pokemon game coming out which has always been Nintendo's biggest system selling handheld franchise.

Remains to be seen, a cost analysis of ps4 parts came to around 450 bucks by an expert on GAF. And that was using off the shelf pricing, which sony will obviously pay less than. Its quite possible to we'll see a 400 ps4 without sony taking a significant loss. Xbox could be about the same or cheaper depending on kinect 2.

I would love to come back to this thread two years later to see how accurate, or inaccurate, these guesses are. I look forward to it, but as for the topic itself I am sure the Wii U will make a comeback. Will they "win" this generation? I have no clue.
