Most of these were discontinued in 1996 and 1997. Sony introduced the PS1 in 1994. This might be what they are talking about.

Exactly my thought, there was only Sega and despite they had many fanst (like me) they never were in one league with Nintendo (BigN was way more successful) or Sony which forced themselves into market with a lot of money Sega didn't have. That's why I was suprised he said "competitors".

Sony has had multiple competitors, but sadly most of them have been able to beat Sony at their own game, hence why they are in the position they're in financially.

Pippin: "In May 2006, the Pippin placed 22nd in PC World Magazine's list of the "25 Worst Tech Products of all Time." - Wikipedia :) But yes, they were gone before they even started... According to Wikipedia produced less than 100k...

Jaguar, 3DO & Pippin all got discontinued AFTER the release of the PS1.

There is no rule that his statement must only include competitors that released and got discontinued after PS1 release in Dec. 1994. Those competitors still left the market, which gives legitimacy to his statement.

Plus, like I later said, the N-Gage came out in 2003, with the PSP releasing a few months later. Does that one suddenly not count either?

 

He is right. They have seen them come and they have seen them go.
