Western or Eastern games?

Western 59 31.72%

Eastern 127 68.28%

Total:186

I prefere Easton Games, mostly the older ones

Resident evil 1-3
Silent hill 1-3
Metal gear solid 1-4

I hate it when Western devlopers take over the development for these games, or the east try to "westernise" them

Resident evil 5 - lost it
Silent hill homecoming- lost it
metal gear rising......you got it....lost it

Underlined in reference to res 5 and metal gear :)

and thats another example yes

I refuse to us a poll that only gives me those two options.

I find it to be a tie both have great games ,good games and rubbish , same thing with the stories although when I hear great stories the first thing that springs to mind are titles like planescape torment , though no eastern ones jump straight to my mind that doesn't mean that there isn't any and any way often it's usually the dialogue that annoys me rather than the story , games like FF tend to me to have great worlds and interesting stories to tell , let down by poor characterization and dialogue this wasn't so bad when it was written but when it became voiced it was terrible filled with pregnant pauses in the wrong places and the dialogue seems like it was written to be read rather than as a proper script.

What I don't like is how people list mainly fps for West and the same for the East except it's jrpg's both have a large variety of genres in their dna ,also Japan took western games like Ultima and used that as a template for their own rpg's and as is the way of the world that then influenced the West since I grew up with both and each had a profound influence on my love for gaming I find them equal.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is as Japanese as a game can get... the MGS ones are more "western" than rising...

This was the first generation that the west handily beat the east imo. Besides this gen, the east curbstomped the rest but then again, the east used to be the only relevant console maker.

"Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth." -My good friend Mark Aurelius

I can't stand when people make "East vs West" threads, and then list mostly mainstream console games for the Western portion. There is another platform out there you know its called PC and its dominated by hundreds of talented Western developers that destroy both the mainstream Western & Eastern developers alike.

Hell even some indie games on PC have been better than the majority of the mainstream console exclusive retail releases. Lets take the horror genre for example, there are horror games on PC that make those Sci fi action shooters disquised as survival horror on consoles look pretty silly.

Japanese have been slacking a little though. Platformers are still good, and some RPG's, but they've been terrible at horror lately. The Nordic nations between Sweden, Norway, & Denmark have pretty much replaced Japan as the most prominent survival horror producers.

The reason being, PC offers far more freedom, as a result PC gets a lot of more creative games. Consoles are pretty limited and closed in comparison. Hell last i heard Nintendo rejected "The Binding of Issac" for "questionable religious content", lol.

Calling most Japanese games "Westernized" is a bit of an oxymoron. Many of them are already westernized to an extent. JRPG for example, is not a seperate genre, the Japanese did not design, create, or make anything new that didn't already exist in old RPGs. Aesthetics, and style alone is not enough to be a "new genre", especially when it comes to games. Plenty of Japanese games are about as westernized as their Animation is.

Did you see how Japanese art looked before the influence from the west? Nothing like Anime i'll tell you that. The big eyes, pulling inaminate objects out of nowhere, Eyes turning different colors based on moods, defying laws of physics, Gaining  temporary supernatural abilities fueled by mood (hell Donald Duck could tear through a wall, and was pretty much indestructable when he went in duck rage mode), the ability to manipulate their density (ie enlarging their mouths when yelling, and other body parts like so)

These were all trademarks from Western animation that the Japanese heavily borrowed.
